Dark chains extended from nothingness, coiling around Chen Ling and restraining all his movements. Cold and heavy, they enveloped his body. As if realizing something, he lifted his gaze and met Han Meng's eyes across the tribunal.
The trial had reopened. This time, the target was Chen Ling.
"Hey! Han Meng! What are you doing?!" Several figures burst from behind the shattered door. Jian Changsheng and the others' faces immediately clouded over at the sight.
Having grown up in the Aurora Domain, Jian Changsheng naturally knew about the legendary enforcer's past, including his history with Chen Ling. So, when Han Meng appeared and tore open space, Jian Changsheng automatically assumed he was there to save Chen Ling. He never expected that Han Meng, fresh from judging a thieving saint, would turn his attention to Chen Ling! What exactly was he trying to do?!
"What the hell? Wasn't he here to rescue someone?" Sun Bumian turned to ask Jian Changsheng."How should I know!" Jian Changsheng gnashed his teeth. "That doesn't make sense... They should be colleagues in the Aurora Domain, so why are they fighting now?"
"Save him first!" Jiang Xiaohua crisply uttered. The three rushed towards the defendant's stand without hesitation, but before they could take more than a few steps, Han Meng raised the small wooden gavel in his hand and gently brought it down. *Thud!* Jian Changsheng and the other two were frozen in place.
Han Meng's gaze shifted from the three and returned to Chen Ling. His deep eyes flickered, and after a long silence, he finally spoke: "Grand Sin Judgment, in session."
Mysterious patterns, also via the chains, climbed over Chen Ling's body. His blood-soaked crimson opera robe was bound by the chains, and eight hideous wounds still slowly oozed blood. A pool of blood spread beneath Chen Ling's feet, and the entire tribunal fell into an eerie silence.
But soon, angry curses broke the silence: "To hell with you, Han Meng!" Unable to move, Jian Changsheng could only shout obscenities. "We're old acquaintances from Aurora City! If you weren't going to help, that's one thing, but to kick someone when they're down now? I foolishly thought you were a rare good person, but now I realize I was completely blind! If you have the guts, let me go! If you can kill me in this tribunal, I'll admit you're amazing!"
As if finding him too noisy, Han Meng couldn't help but glance at him again. He raised his gavel once more and brought it down... "You're the Judgment Chief, huh? Just wait until I become Chief, I'll..." *Thud!* Jian Changsheng's mouth snapped shut as if stitched. He stared wide-eyed at Han Meng, as if wishing to devour him alive. Sun Bumian and Jiang Xiaohua's expressions were equally grim.
"One after another... This is truly too much," Sun Bumian muttered. "I've lived so many lives, and this is the first time I've felt so frustrated, unable to defeat anyone..." Mo Lian, the King of Silver, a High-Tier Usurper, Hide-and-Seek, Huang He, Han Meng... Along the way, Sun Bumian and his two companions had repeatedly been suppressed, suffering dimension-reducing blows from high-tier powerhouses. In this war in the Boundless Domain, their role was simply too small. Resentment and anger, long suppressed within their hearts, grew more intense as the war progressed. At this moment, Sun Bumian was almost at his breaking point... Ripples spread from his eyes, and as Sun Bumian's fury and unwillingness surged, a mysterious power slowly began to leak from deep within his body.
Han Meng suddenly seemed to sense something and looked back. Sun Bumian, who had been frozen in place, was actually starting to loosen his restraints, little by little! He was slowly breaking free from the bonds of "Order."
Sun Bumian slowly raised his head, his small round sunglasses sliding down his nose slightly. His eyes, nested with colorful rings, seemed to ignite as he gazed across the space at Han Meng in the tribunal... like a lion about to go berserk. Equally close to breaking free was the always silent Jiang Xiaohua.
If Han Meng could vaguely detect the power within Sun Bumian, he had absolutely no perception of Jiang Xiaohua. He didn't even know what method she was using to break free, and her progress was faster than Sun Bumian's! "Who exactly are these three?" A flicker of doubt crossed Han Meng's mind.
"Don't mind me." Just then, Chen Ling's calm voice echoed from the defendant's stand. Sun Bumian and Jiang Xiaohua froze simultaneously. Chen Ling stood quietly, his gaze fixed on the black-clad figure at the highest point of the tribunal. He replied calmly, with a detached and casual tone, "If you want to judge me... then come."
Although confused, Sun Bumian and Jiang Xiaohua stopped trying to break free. Only Jian Changsheng, whose mouth was sealed, glared at Han Meng, his eyes still cursing him horribly.
Han Meng looked at Chen Ling again. After a moment of mutual gaze, a dark crimson hue once more filled Han Meng's eyes. "In court..." Han Meng began, but then he froze. His dark crimson eyes were fixed on Chen Ling, and for the first time, his all-seeing gaze showed shock and confusion.
The crimson opera robe stood silently at the defendant's stand, seemingly awaiting the upcoming verdict. After an unknown amount of time, Han Meng's voice finally resonated again: "In court... the Scarlet Sovereign of the Mocking Abyss, the Faceless King who scoffs at fate..."
Han Meng's voice was low and solemn. His gaze upon Chen Ling shifted repeatedly, pausing for a second before he continued, "Aurora City Enforcer, Twilight Society's Heart 6... Chen Ling." Jian Changsheng and the other two paused, baffled. They simultaneously looked at Chen Ling in confusion. The latter parts of the address were fine, but what about the beginning? Would a fuser of a world-ending calamity be called by such a destructive title when subjected to a Grand Sin Judgment? This was their first experience with a Grand Sin Judgment, so they were momentarily bewildered. Chen Ling, however, seemed completely unsurprised by this pronouncement. He merely smiled faintly, patiently awaiting the rest of the verdict.
The mysterious patterns, via the chains, continuously scanned Chen Ling's body. Han Meng's dark crimson eyes remained fixed on Chen Ling, as if searching for all his "crimes." Time passed, minute by minute. After an unknown duration, Han Meng finally closed his eyes, appearing exhausted.
As if a great weight had been lifted from his heart, Han Meng's tense expression relaxed. He gently raised his hand, and the "evidence" of Chen Ling's crimes, compiled by Huang He and scattered on the floor, spontaneously combusted, slowly turning to ash within the tribunal. Han Meng opened his eyes again, a faint smile playing on his lips, and spoke with a sense of relief: "Chen Ling... is innocent."
