Chapter 1124: Going to the Restroom
Some of the newer cult members, however, seemed to not fully grasp what was said, a look of confusion flickering in their eyes. Several older members then began to explain:
"The Archbishop said these are humans and fusers they encountered on the road, possibly related to the fusers who suddenly appeared a few days ago. They are to be brought back for interrogation and can also serve as sacrifices to the Supreme Crimson Heavens Savior."
With this explanation, the other Crimson Heavens cultists understood, and so did Chen Ling, who was hiding behind the window.
"Fusers... where are the fusers?"
Chen Ling seemed to realize something, his gaze returning to the pile of plants the Archbishop had casually tossed onto the ground. His expression was a little strange.
How did these three end up mixed with fusers?
The Archbishop's gaze swept over the crowd, and he asked with a frown.
The older Crimson Heavens cultists were taken aback, then looked around themselves and asked, puzzled:
"Strange... why are so few people here? Where are the others?"
"I don't know, when we arrived, there was no movement in the other houses."
Looking at the reduced number of people, now only half, and the eerily silent village before them, several Crimson Heavens cultists suddenly felt an ominous premonition.
"Search quickly!"
As soon as the words fell, the less experienced Crimson Heavens cultists quickly dispersed, heading to search the houses from which no one had emerged.
Chen Ling knew that what he had done would most likely not remain hidden. He watched the Crimson Heavens cultist heading towards his location, his mind racing.
Creak—
Several houses closest to the Crimson Heavens cultists were already pushed open. The cultists walked into the empty rooms, looked around, and a deep confusion appeared in their eyes.
"...Strange... where have the people gone?"
"What?"
"There's no one in my house either!"
"Mine too..."
Chen Ling had killed cleanly, leaving no trace of blood, so the interiors of the houses remained perfectly tidy, showing no signs of struggle. Every Crimson Heavens cultist who entered a house was baffled.
Meanwhile,
A Crimson Heavens cultist arrived at the door of Chen Ling's hiding place.
He pushed the door open forcefully, and with a crisp creak, a tidy room came into view. He looked inside with confusion, seeing no one, then stepped inside, still puzzled.
However, as he took just two steps inside, a red shadow suddenly descended from above!
The monster, woven from countless red papers, opened its massive mouth and enveloped his body like venom. The dense red papers frantically writhed, tearing at his flesh from within. Despite the intense pain, he couldn't make a sound, as his trachea and throat were choked by the red paper. The tiny bits of paper continuously drilled into his body, shredding him little by little.
The Crimson Heavens cultist stumbled forward, struggling twice, before the paper-clad legs stood steadily. From a distance, he looked like a red paper figure, a sight that made one's scalp crawl.
Within seconds, the writhing red paper became still.
The surface of the red paper began to transform into human skin and clothing. With a tear at the chin, the flat paper-figure face also changed into the likeness of the Crimson Heavens cultist. The entire person was now indistinguishable from before.
"Li Liang, how's it going in there?" A Crimson Heavens cultist's voice came from outside.
"Li Liang" pretended to look around the room, then stepped out and spoke incredulously:
"Strange... there really isn't anyone."
Aside from Li Liang, other Crimson Heavens cultists also emerged from their respective houses. The remaining twenty-odd cultists gathered together, staring blankly at the empty village before them. The winds of the Gray Realm swept through the village, echoing with eerie wailing sounds in the empty houses, as if they devoured people. Their scalps tingled with unease.
Overnight, half of the cultists had mysteriously vanished.
Such a terrifying event had never occurred since the establishment of this branch. Even this group of fanatics, who worshipped the Red Star, were momentarily gripped by the fear of the "unknown."
They, of course, had no idea that the "man-eating" source of all this horror had silently blended in among them.
"Could it be... the Fuser faction attacked?" one Crimson Heavens cultist couldn't help but ask.
"How could that be? Even if the Fuser faction attacked, we would surely have been alerted. Did any of you hear anything last night?"
The Crimson Heavens cultists all shook their heads, especially Chen Ling, who shook his head with great sincerity.
"Damn it..."
Zheng Ye muttered, his gaze sweeping across the desolate village. For a moment, he dared not move, as if fearing something hidden within might "devour" him alive as well.
Just then, the Archbishop let out a cold snort, slamming his bone staff heavily onto the ground!
Thud—!!
A dull thud brought everyone's troubled minds back to reality. They looked at the ape-like figure adorned with red leaves, and the two cardinal bishops behind him, and their hearts suddenly settled considerably.
They had almost forgotten that the Archbishop and two bishops were personally present today. Whatever happened, they would resolve it.
"Everyone, attend to your duties. A few of you, follow me and search every part of the village thoroughly," Zheng Ye's translation resounded opportunely. "With the Archbishop and bishops here, this branch will not have any problems."
Everyone's hearts immediately calmed down. They dispersed and left. At the same time, Zheng Ye's gaze swept over the crowd, and he casually pointed at a few individuals:
"You few, tie these four people securely beneath the sacred fire. You two... and Li Liang, you come with me."
"Um..."
Chen Ling asked meekly, "Can I go to the restroom first?"
"...Go quickly and come back soon."
"Yes."
Chen Ling turned and left. He walked past the busy crowd, heading directly towards the outhouse at the very edge of the village.
Chen Ling had already familiarized himself with the layout last night and naturally knew the location of the restroom. He skirted past everyone, making his way to the edge of the cliff and entering the simply constructed outhouse.
Closing the outhouse door, everything around him plunged into darkness. The simple look in Chen Ling's eyes gradually faded, replaced by pupils that faintly emitted a red glow.
He calmly glanced around, and after confirming that no one was paying attention to this spot, he casually raised his palm.
The next moment, his palm rapidly writhed, and fine teeth woven from red paper opened between his fingers, spitting out one grim white bone after another.
They were human bones.
Chen Ling's body contorted, expelling more and more bones, even human teeth. As the final skull was ejected from his body, Chen Ling's form returned to its original state.
At his feet, "Li Liang," reduced to pale bones, lay heaped like refuse. With a gentle kick from Chen Ling, the remains tumbled down the cliff of the Gray Realm.
After completing all of this, Chen Ling stretched lazily, as if he had just finished relieving himself. He then casually opened the outhouse door and leisurely walked back towards the village.
