Chapter 1152: Ye Mu

Chapter 1152: Ye Mu

Author: Sān Jiǔ YīnyùWord Count: 1241

Missed Calls: 3Caller: Lu Xun

The phone screen inside the plastic wrap suddenly lit up. A figure in a protective suit opened a safe with his left hand, his eyes narrowing slightly as his peripheral vision caught the caller ID.

Without much hesitation, he locked the sealed phone, keys, smartwatch, and other personal belongings inside the cabinet. After doing all this, he turned and walked towards the corridor.

In the brightly lit laboratory corridor, several figures, also in protective suits, bustled around. He deftly navigated through the crowd and pushed open the door to a room.

"Supervisor, Lu Xun called Chu Changqing. He called three times," he said as he closed the door.

The man referred to as the supervisor, in his early forties and wearing a black leather jacket, stood silently before a giant one-way glass panel. He showed no expression upon hearing this.

"Understood."

"Supervisor... do you think Lu Xun will come back to take him back?"

"Mind your words," the supervisor said, glancing at him. "Dr. Lu is a research collaborator with our 749 Bureau. Our goal is solely the advancement of human civilization... If Dr. Lu is willing to return, that would naturally be a good thing."

The young man in the protective suit felt a bit awkward. After glancing at the one-way glass, he still replied, "...Yes."

Behind the one-way glass was a large white room, filled with various instruments. Four or five figures, fully equipped in hazmat suits, were busy working inside... In the very center of the room, a person in a white lab coat sat quietly, their hands and feet bound to the chair. A pair of eyes, faintly tinged with blue-green, gazed in the direction of the one-way glass.

"Supervisor... why do I feel like he's watching us?" the young man asked, unnerved by the gaze.

"He can't see us," the supervisor said calmly. "It's a one-way glass; only we can see him. From his perspective, it's just a normal mirror..."

"I can see you."

Chu Changqing, seated in the chair, suddenly spoke. His voice even resonated through the entire glass panel, easily penetrating into the observation room behind the one-way glass.

At that moment, the supervisor's expression subtly changed, but quickly returned to normal.

"Dr. Chu, eavesdropping isn't a good habit."

"I wasn't eavesdropping; I simply happened to hear... and happen to see," Chu Changqing's voice was perfectly calm. "I understand and accept that you wish to study me, but since we are in a cooperative relationship, you should at least politely remove my restraints... instead of making me feel like a lab mouse."

"I'm truly sorry, Dr. Chu, but for the safety of the laboratory, we cannot unbind you," the supervisor paused. "After all, if you were to regrow your wings and claws and damage the equipment here, we would have a major headache..."

"Last time, I was merely acting in self-defense; you were the ones who first used anesthetic weapons."

"The mutations occurring in your body are too dangerous; we had no choice..."

"No choice?" Chu Changqing scoffed. "I completely misjudged you. I thought you were different from Director Zheng before, but it turns out everyone in the 749 Bureau is cut from the same cloth... Director Zheng's ability to secretly transfer Lu Xun and me here must have been with the approval of higher-ups, right?"

"I'm not privy to matters concerning the higher-ups. I only know that the outside world is undergoing unfavorable changes... and the secrets hidden within you might be intricately linked to these changes," the supervisor said, slowly spreading his hands. "You yourself are a doctor of cell biology; you should know that advances in technology and medicine are built upon extensive experimentation."

"I don't believe you'll discover anything new by using these methods on me," Chu Changqing snorted. "Before you even noticed my anomaly, I had already studied myself many times..."

"Just because you couldn't find anything doesn't mean others can't..."

Just as the supervisor was about to speak, another figure in a protective suit suddenly entered from outside and whispered into his ear: "Supervisor, Professor Ye Mu has been invited over, as you instructed."

"Bring him in."

"Yes."

As the figure in the protective suit left, Chu Changqing's brows behind the glass immediately furrowed. "You actually invited Professor Ye?"

"Professor Ye is the foremost authority in the field of biology in our country, and we are well aware of your relationship with him... That's why I said, just because you couldn't find anything doesn't mean he can't."

Just as the supervisor was speaking, the door behind him slowly opened.

"Cough, cough, cough..."

A weak coughing sound came from behind. A white-haired figure, seated in a wheelchair, was slowly pushed into the observation room by several figures in protective suits.

He was an old man in his seventies, wearing a simple Zhongshan suit. The wrinkles on his face spoke of the passage of time. He coughed softly, one hand covering his mouth, his expression seemingly pained, yet his aged eyes held the clear light of wisdom.

In front of this elderly man, even the supervisor took half a step back and spoke respectfully: "Professor Ye, it's been many years. How are you feeling?"

"...I'm old now; I can barely see," Professor Ye shook his head. "What exactly is this 'experiment sample' you mentioned? Where is it?"

"Right there."

The supervisor pointed towards the area behind the glass.

Professor Ye looked up in that direction, his aged eyes narrowing into slits as if he still couldn't see clearly. He gestured for the people behind him to push him forward, stopping only when he was almost pressed against the glass.

Professor Ye recognized the face and suddenly froze. "You are... Chu Changqing?"

Chu Changqing, bound to the chair, his blue-tinged eyes fixed on the aged man, his expression incredibly complex...

After an unknown amount of time, he finally parted his lips and softly called out: "It's me, Professor Ye."

Professor Ye's body trembled uncontrollably. He braced his hands on the armrests of his wheelchair and shakily stood up, his aged eyes filled with anger as he glared intensely at the supervisor behind him!

"You... you..."

"Do you have any idea... that he is my student???"

Professor Ye's face flushed red with anger. He actually pushed his wheelchair aside and staggered towards the supervisor, grabbing him by the collar! "You arrested my most brilliant student and confined him here, asking me to dissect and study my own student?? This is what you call a 'major biological discovery'?!?"

Facing the old man's accusation, the supervisor's expression remained calm. He slowly began: "Professor Ye, a 'major discovery' is a 'major discovery', regardless of whether it's a person or your student... that is irrelevant."
