Drip-drop…
Tiny water droplets seeped from the old faucet, falling onto the bathroom floor and echoing in the stuffy, narrow room.
Outside the window, the deep red light from a neon sign filtered through the curtains, illuminating the dim room and stretching the shadow of Chu Changqing on his wheelchair like a gnarled branch.
His head was bowed, and in the darkness, his eyes, faintly glowing with a pale blue light, resembled transparent emeralds. Dark ink marks were branded onto his joints, making him look like a helpless puppet.
The clock on the wall ticked by, minute by minute. Chu Changqing glanced at the time and slowly spoke:
“I need to use the restroom.”
“Again?” A university student sitting in the corner frowned. “Didn't you just go half an hour ago?”
“I have claustrophobia. It’s too dark, too small, and there are no windows open. I get nervous.”
The two university students exchanged glances, appearing hesitant.
“If I can’t hold it in later, you’d better clean it up for me,” Chu Changqing added blandly.
The two university students imagined the scene and instantly felt disgusted, but they nodded nonetheless.
“Go on, but don’t try any tricks.”
As one of the university students raised a hand, the ink marks Han Xiang had left on Chu Changqing’s body loosened slightly, giving Chu Changqing just enough room to move.
Chu Changqing struggled to push himself up by the wheelchair armrests, then stumbled to his feet. He used the foot of the bed and the wall for support, slowly moving toward the bathroom.
The bathroom in this hotel was enclosed by frosted glass, allowing one to vaguely discern the silhouette of a person inside even from the main room. Both university students were intently watching the stumbling shadow move into the bathroom, their eyes filled with vigilance.
Chu Changqing first used the toilet, then raised his hand to flush it. Under the watchful eyes of the two outside, he slowly moved to the sink.
Tiny water droplets were slowly seeping from the faucet, and in the corner behind it, a small spiderweb silently hovered.
On the web lay a fingernail-sized spider, splayed out as if dead. Around it, tiny spider eggs, faintly glowing with a pale blue light, were gently trembling.
Chu Changqing’s eyes narrowed slightly.
He turned on the faucet, and the gushing sound of water immediately filled the room. However, Chu Changqing didn’t wash his hands. Instead, using the sound as cover, he gently cut open the pad of his little finger and dabbed his fingertip, smeared with a tiny amount of blood, onto the spider eggs.
A faint wisp of pale blue light separated from his blood and drilled directly into the eggs.
A faint glow flickered in Chu Changqing’s pupils, as if he were analyzing something. The DNA structures within the insect egg cells were, at that moment, being disrupted by some divine hand, rapidly disintegrating and reassembling!
The next second, the eggs began to tremble violently!
“Are you saying they’re staying right above us?”
At the hotel staircase, Yang Xiao, who had just returned, looked at the 301 key in his hand, his expression incredibly surprised.
“Exactly,” Lu Xun nodded. “I thought they’d be more careful, hiding Chu Changqing under a bridge or even occupying a private house… I never expected them to actually check into a hotel. That saves us a lot of trouble.”
“They probably never imagined that this hotel’s owner is Dr. Lu’s uncle,” Su Zhiwei chuckled softly.
“So, what do we do next?”
Su Zhiwei pondered for a moment.
“I’ve confirmed with my uncle that Chu Changqing is only accompanied by two university students. With the three of us working together, it shouldn’t be hard to get Chu Changqing from them… But the problem is that this place is too close to the Huixian Hotel. We need to keep the commotion during the operation to a minimum, or we’ll alert the 749 Bureau and the Emperor’s people.”
“Those two university students are only Tier 3. If we act fast enough, they likely won’t have time to react.”
“Dr. Su has fought them before, so she should know them well. Dr. Su will lead the charge this time.” Lu Xun turned to Yang Xiao, “I’ll be responsible for transferring Chu Changqing in a moment. Yang Xiao, you’re in charge of using your ability to reinforce the windows and walls. Don’t let them break anything and cause a disturbance.”
“No problem.”
The three quickly finalized their strategy and quietly ascended the stairs to the third floor.
The entire third floor was silent. Sunlight couldn’t reach the corridor; only two dim lights provided faint illumination. Between the old wallpapers, two room doors stood silently.
The three walked to the door of room 301, exchanged glances, and nodded slightly.
Yang Xiao placed his hand on the door lock. Instead of using a key, he directly manipulated the metal structure inside the lock cylinder, slowly turning it… Not only was there no sound of a key inserting into the lock, but the door opened incredibly fast.
“Go!”
The moment Yang Xiao opened the lock, he shouted. Almost simultaneously, Su Zhiwei’s figure, like a white flash of lightning, flew directly into room 301!
But the next moment, Su Zhiwei froze in place.
As the door fully opened, Lu Xun and Yang Xiao, who were about to rush in, also stood stunned like statues at the sight before them.
Drip-drop…
The faint sound of water dripping echoed in the room.
The curtains, dyed deep red by the neon light, swayed silently. Countless spiderwebs covered almost every corner of the room, creating an eerie and chilling atmosphere like a demonic spider's lair. In the center of the dense webs, two figures, wrapped in pale cocoons, hung silently swaying from the ceiling.
On the ceiling, walls, and floor of the room, grotesque spiders simultaneously turned. Each was the size of an adult male, covered in white markings. Their spider legs were long and sharp like a praying mantis’s scythes, and atop their heads were eighteen eyes, each one as black as ink.
The creatures before them were definitely not native to Earth; they resembled aliens from a movie, chilling one to the bone with a single glance!
Even Su Zhiwei, who was at the front, couldn’t help but step back half a pace, her expression extremely grim.
“This is…”
“The Calamity Chen Dao mentioned? Has the Calamity already invaded??”
“No, these creatures don’t seem quite like the Calamity… Damn it, what on earth are these things??”
Just then, a slightly surprised voice came from behind the dense spiderwebs.
“Lu Xun?”
Lu Xun found the voice somewhat familiar. He frowned and looked in that direction, seeing all the giant spiders climb along the webs towards it, using their sharp legs to slice open a gap in the thick webbing.
The next second, a figure in a wheelchair slowly moved forward from the deep red glow.
Long hair swayed with the breeze from outside the window, and a pair of pale blue eyes gazed at the three people in the doorway, seemingly filled with surprise… He simply emerged from the midst of the monstrous spiders, a familiar face revealed before the trio.
The moment he saw the person, Lu Xun spoke in disbelief:
“Chu Changqing???”
