Chapter 1395: Extinction Conference

The furious roar of the storm echoed in Chen Ling's ears. His consciousness, like clothes tossed into a tumble dryer, churned endlessly in the void. Yet, completely drunk, he remained oblivious, his body slumping through the nothingness until it finally settled, without a sound, onto a tranquil sea.

As he drifted down, ripples spread across the mirror-like, undisturbed surface of the sea, extending under a dim sky to the edge of nothingness. This was not a real sea, but rather a fictitious mental space. Above the boundless, calm waters, colossal, magnificent stone pillars stood tall, topped by the intricate and ancient dome of a castle. This dome, however, was now infinitely magnified, covering the entire sea. If Chen Ling were to awaken, he would recognize this ancient fortress as the dwelling place of Calamity of Thought on the Stormy Isle.

The moment Chen Ling descended, the sea beside him began to churn violently. A similar storm of thoughts surged beneath the surface, and moments later, an immeasurably vast silhouette emerged from the maelstrom. It was like an endless shadow rising from the deep sea; the originally blue water turned inky black under its looming presence. As the gigantic form expanded over the waves, a thunderous crash broke through the surface. BOOM!!! An aura of annihilation surged forth. A colossal shadow, shaped like a whale but bearing a massive, bizarre lantern, appeared from the churning, monstrous waves. Its entire body was covered in dense, eerie black runes, a sight that sent shivers down the spine and caused mental disarray. Compared to its immense size, the crimson opera robe lying drunkenly on the sea was like a tiny speck of cinnabar, insignificantly bobbing with the current. The Cursed Shadow of the Eternal Night, spreading forbidden abyssal corpses—Calamity of Taboo.

Following the appearance of Calamity of Taboo, a third storm of thoughts materialized in the sky. This storm, appearing out of thin air, spun like a tangled ball of yarn. Then, a pair of pale, skeletal wings tore through its edge, revealing a monstrous bone dragon that blotted out the sky as it soared. As its formidable wings, formed from bleached bones, flapped, it was unclear whether it was the wind stirring or civilization wailing. Its empty, wind-tunnel eyes gazed down at the sea, and in the areas swept by its gaze, the very air seemed to be sucked away. It circled once in mid-air before slowly descending onto the sea. A low dragon's breath rumbled, and the sea, which had just regained its calm, began to tremble once more. The Wilderness Singer, chanting destruction, the Dust Dragon, scattering civilization—Calamity of Rest.

Immediately after, the fourth and fifth storms of thought erupted on the sea. Dense, thick roots extended from the storm's fissures, resembling octopus tentacles or writhing snakes. The moment they pierced the water, the sea instantly transformed into viscous, eerie soil. Above countless roots, a gigantic silhouette resembling a flower of flesh gradually took shape. Its blood-red calyxes hung from the roots like tumors, twisted and bizarre, like a grotesque sunflower. Ferocious, densely packed fangs lined the edges of its petals, from which a faint, noxious miasma emanated, enveloping the bloom. From a distance, the tumor-like sunflower strangely resembled a divine Buddha's halo, wreathed in ethereal mist, perfectly intertwining sanctity and gore. The Wriggling Overlord of the Foul Flesh Forest, the Buddha who Plucks Flowers and Hunts Light—Calamity of Miasma.

From the final storm of thought, a dark shadow shot skyward. The moment it expanded and unfurled, the entire sky above the sea was blotted out. It was like an infinite, boundless night, with countless hollow, eerie eyes opening across its surface like dense stars. Each eye was distinct: deer eyes, wolf eyes, mink eyes, rat eyes… As these eyes opened, an indescribable surge of resentment pulsed through the air. After a brief pause, the night covering the heavens finally began to recede, and only then could its true form barely be discerned. It was a skin. A bizarre, blood-red skin covered in eyes, curling and folding in the air, transforming at times into a deer, then a squirrel, then a weasel, and even attempting to take human form. Yet, its own eyes were a cluster of densely packed animal pupils, appearing as unsettlingly eerie as a honeycomb. The Primal Mother eternally fallen into delusion, the Skin-Painted Totem of Greed and Desire—Calamity of Delusion.

As these four colossal beasts manifested on the sea, the last storm surged from the void. But no giant shadow emerged from this storm; instead, it simply swelled and expanded, stretching outwards as if alive, until a pair of hollow eyes opened within it. At that instant, the entire sea and the ancient castle above it trembled slightly, as if, in this world of thoughts, it was the absolute ruler. The Nightmare of the Isolated Isle, slumbering in storms, the Eerie Specter at the End of Thought—Calamity of Thought.

Five world-ending auras converged on the sea, nearly engulfing the entire expanse in chaotic turbulence. Their energies clashed, and simultaneously, their thoughts connected across the water through the storm. "One... is missing..." "Where... is... Taunt?" Calamity of Taboo's query resonated through the minds of the other great calamities. Moments later, the storm-like Calamity of Thought shifted its gaze, its empty eyes turning towards an unnoticed corner of the sea. Amidst the colossal waves churned by the calamities, a figure draped in a crimson opera robe lay supine on the water, unconsciously pushed several kilometers away by the current. Faint snores emanated from his nose, as if he were in a deep, peaceful slumber.

The other great calamities fell silent. The skeletal bone dragon, Calamity of Rest, opened its mouth directly, an aura of annihilation brewing within, seemingly intending to unleash its dragon's breath directly upon Chen Ling. The other calamities sensed its intention and knew that Calamity of Rest and Calamity of Taunt were always at odds. Calamity of Thought initially considered intervening but, after a moment of hesitation, remained silent. A terrifying dragon's breath gathered before Calamity of Rest, its surging aftermath clearing a vacuum in the surrounding waves. The next second, a world-shattering wave of destructive energy shot towards Chen Ling, who floated in the distance on the sea!

BOOM—!!! The instant the dragon's breath erupted, the entire conscious world trembled slightly. Faint cracks of nothingness spread outwards in all directions along the path of the breath. The dragon's breath engulfed the crimson opera robe, pierced the sea, and instantly vaporized the surrounding waters into nothingness. Just as Calamity of Rest watched the direction where Chen Ling was swallowed by the breath, a cold voice echoed from above it: "Calamity of Rest..." "Are you trying to die?" The next second, the sea beneath Calamity of Rest suddenly transformed into an inferno. A colossal pillar of fire, far more intense than a nuclear explosion, directly engulfed its body, erupting skyward within this world of consciousness!
