Chapter 1424: The Final Escape
"A Fuser?" Pu Xiachan frowned, her entire body tensing with alarm.
Han Meng checked his breath, and after confirming he was alive, patted his shoulder. "Zhao Yi."
Under Han Meng's shaking, Zhao Yi slowly opened his eyes. Seeing the familiar face, he paused slightly. "Officer Han Meng?"
"Why are you sleeping here?"
"I..." Zhao Yi recalled what had happened before he fainted, and his expression instantly darkened.
Boom—
The rumbling crash of the Disaster against the ruins came from afar. Han Meng glanced at the time, then directly hoisted Zhao Yi onto his back from the debris, heading towards the Dimensional Train.
"You're taking him on the Dimensional Train?" Pu Xiachan asked, astonished. "He's a Fuser!"
Everyone knew how the South Sea Dimension had been breached. Pu Xiachan had personally witnessed a rampaging Fuser kill members of the Pu family. To them, Zhao Yi was undoubtedly a ticking time bomb, capable of losing control at any moment.
"If he were going to lose control, he would have by now," Han Meng replied calmly. "The fact that he survived Ye Mu's attack proves he's fine."
Pu Xiachan was still somewhat worried, but she looked at the weak Zhao Yi, hesitated for a moment, and ultimately chose to trust Han Meng.
Soon, the three arrived at the signal flare's location.
The signal flare hadn't been launched from the Dimensional Train station; after all, the Fuser faction had completely destroyed the entire station the moment they lost control, to prevent anyone from escaping the South Sea Dimension. Before the three of them stood a temporary warehouse used to store Dimensional Trains.
Inside the warehouse, the Dimensional Train's locomotive was attached to a single carriage. Several figures were already standing inside the carriage, preparing to start the train.
"Xiachan!"
Pu Chunshu, who was on the train, saw Pu Xiachan and his eyes lit up. The anxiety that had weighed on him finally lifted.
Besides Pu Chunshu, the Pu family patriarch, who was covered in wounds, was also in the carriage. However, his condition seemed very poor, his body marked with injuries left by the Disaster. A survivor from the Medical God Path was diligently trying to treat him, while Pu Shu and two or three other Pu family survivors stood nearby.
Seeing Han Meng arrive, the weak Pu family patriarch managed a faint smile and nodded slightly in greeting.
Pu Shu, standing nearby, showed a barely perceptible darkening of his expression, as if resenting why fate hadn't let Han Meng die at the hands of the Disaster. But despite his inner grumbling, with the Pu family patriarch and others present, he dared not say anything aloud.
"Where's Uncle Sanyuan?" Pu Xiachan asked, puzzled.
"He's still clearing the Disasters along the track, making a path for us," the Pu family patriarch replied. "We owe our survival this time largely to Sanyuan..."
The Scholar's combat prowess had been fully demonstrated in this war. Being much younger than the Pu family patriarch and others, and more skilled in combat, he had become everyone's sole hope at present.
Han Meng boarded the carriage, his gaze quickly falling upon the similarly dying blind man in the corner of the carriage.
Unlike the Pu family patriarch, the blind man had no obvious wounds from the Disaster. However, his life force was like withered grass in the wind, seemingly about to extinguish at any moment. His hair was dry and falling out, and two lines of bloody tears were caked on his cheeks. He sat motionless in the corner, like a statue of despair.
"Wait, why did you bring a Fuser onto the train??" From the other side of the carriage, a councilor abruptly stood up. "He'll get us all killed!"
Compared to the battle-worn others, this councilor was suspiciously clean. Not only did he have no wounds, but his clothes were barely dusty, as if he had hidden in this carriage the moment the battle began.
Feeling the councilor's aggressive gaze, and the wary looks of the others, Zhao Yi's weak body trembled slightly. He didn't retort, merely lowered his head silently, not saying a word.
"Shut up," Han Meng said coldly, too annoyed to waste words on this deserter. He raised his gun directly to the councilor's forehead. "Say one more word, and I won't mind killing a useless person to lighten this carriage."
The councilor's harsh and challenging remarks had just reached his throat when Han Meng's single sentence cut him off. He dared not utter another word. He had already severely offended Han Meng, and now he was the most useless person on the train. If Han Meng truly shot him, it was unlikely anyone else would intervene.
"Let him come on..." the blind man spoke feebly from the corner. "He's not under the control of the Disaster of Thought."
The blind man had personally seen the layout of the Disaster of Thought; he hadn't seen any trace of Zhao Yi in the lines of thought it extended.
With the blind man's endorsement, others naturally had no more objections, and Zhao Yi was settled onto a seat.
At the same time, a roaring whistle sounded from the front of the train.
Hum, hum, hum—
With the power pushed to its limit, the carriage trembled as it moved forward, leaving the warehouse and rapidly rushing along the tracks towards the edge of the dimension.
Everyone gripped whatever was next to them, looking out the window. At this point, the Disasters on several nearby streets had heard the whistle, quickly turning and surging towards the train.
"Can this train really break out of the South Sea Dimension?" the councilor asked, his face pale with anxiety.
"I don't know," the Pu family patriarch paused. "But at least, compared to fleeing separately, our chances of survival are greater if we stay together."
The Dimensional Train itself possessed the effect of dispersing Disasters. Coupled with two Eighth-tier beings escorting the train, and most other survivors in the carriage being Sixth or Seventh-tier combatants, this was undoubtedly the safest way to leave.
The whistle roared, and the train began to accelerate madly through the ruins. The locomotive, a masterpiece crafted by the Skytower with immense effort, powerfully smashed through all debris in its path, sending plumes of dust rising!
The markings of the Witch God Path, covering the train and tracks, glowed continuously. Lower-tier Disasters, rushing towards the Dimensional Train, seemed to be affected by some force, instinctively halting and cautiously retreating.
As the train advanced, a Scholar walked through the air above the tracks, countless characters swirling around him, as if protecting the train.
But the next moment, a deep bellow of a monstrous beast came from afar!
Mooooooooan—!!!
An aura of apocalypse, mixed with bone-chilling cold, swirled over the ruins. The Eighth-tier Disasters scattered in various corners seemed to receive a directive at the same time, surging madly towards the train's direction! They didn't approach directly with their physical bodies. Instead, they unleashed waves across the frost-covered ground, conjuring countless colossal ice blades that rained down, covering the sky, upon the accelerating Dimensional Train!
"This is bad," the Pu family patriarch's face was extremely grim. "Those two Apocalyptic Beasts... they don't seem to want to let us leave."
