Chapter 479: Moral

Chapter 480: Morality

Drip—drip—drip—

Inside the white tent, the sounds of various medical devices echoed. Nine figures lay side by side on their respective beds, unconscious, with IV drips in their arms.

“Strange, none of them show external injuries, nor any signs of concussion… Why aren't they waking up?”

“It's been almost ten hours since the rescue and transportation here. Did something happen during the process that sent them into a deep sleep?”

“The medical equipment here is limited. It might be better to send them to a hospital for a comprehensive examination…”

“The commander is calling us from outside. Let's go, we need to report first.”

After confirming that the nine individuals were unharmed, the medical staff lifted the tent flap and walked straight out. Only the faint beeping of the medical equipment resonated within the large tent.

A few seconds later,

On one of the beds, a figure slowly opened their eyes.

Dr. Lou sat up from the bed, his eyes showing no sign of the confusion typical of someone just waking up. He glanced at the closed tent flap and was about to get out of bed and walk towards Wu Tongyuan's bed in the distance.

Just then, a cold voice spoke from nearby:

“I knew it, you were faking sleep.”

Dr. Lou frowned. Even without turning around, he knew who was speaking… On the bed behind him, Dr. Ji had also awoken at some point, his cold eyes fixed on him, and a terrifying pressure began to emanate outwards.

“Same to you,” Dr. Lou said calmly. “I thought you'd keep pretending until you woke up with the others.”

“If I didn't wake up, you'd be killing people again.”

Dr. Ji's voice was exceedingly chilling. As he spoke, the gravity affecting Dr. Lou intensified dramatically, as if God had cast down the scepter of "mechanics" from the heavens, forcefully pinning his body to the ground!

Thud—!!

The gravity, powerful enough to crush any carbon-based life form, pressed down on Dr. Lou's body but caused him no harm. Not even the bed beneath him or the ground showed the slightest crack…

If one looked closely, they would see Dr. Lou's skin emitting a faint glow, made of some unknown material. Even the bed and floor beneath him had been assimilated into this same material, remaining unmoving under the scepter of God's "mechanics"!

Dr. Lou smiled faintly, “Are you sure you want to fight me here?”

The coldness in Dr. Ji's eyes grew more chilling. He was like an enraged monarch, his terrifying aura spreading around him… But when his gaze fell upon the unconscious figures on the other beds, his fury was forcibly restrained.

“I warn you, don't think that just because you came back with that broken USB drive, no one can restrain you anymore… Even if you run to the end of time, I will follow you relentlessly.”

“Broken USB drive? Are you talking about this?”

Dr. Lou flicked his finger, and a USB drive appeared in his palm. If Chen Ling were there, he would immediately recognize it as the one he possessed, though the patterns on its surface differed from those of his own spirit artifact.

Era Archive – Morality.

“Calling this a broken USB drive would hurt Lord Ruoshui's feelings… After all, this is a 'quantum mechanics' artifact that they poured everything into creating, and there are only three in the world.” Dr. Lou toyed with the USB drive, adding with a smile,

“Of course… for me, who wields the authority of 'materials,' there's nothing that can't be replicated, though at some cost.”

“Don't pretend to be compassionate here. Do you actually care if others get hurt?” Dr. Ji sneered. “You manipulative scoundrel, you cold-blooded butcher… You are truly a disgrace to the Nine Sovereigns!!”

Dr. Ji's figure flickered, appearing before Dr. Lou. He gripped Dr. Lou's throat with one hand and slammed his body forcefully onto the ground.

Thud—!!

Dr. Lou's body struck the ground with a sharp metallic clang. The crushing gravity once again bore down on him, like an invisible hand pressing him into the earth.

“Tell me! What exactly do you want to do?! To eliminate the Nine Sovereigns and support Ying Fu—are you trying to push humanity into the abyss of destruction?!”

“You're mistaken in what you're saying. How does supporting Ying Fu lead to humanity's destruction?” Dr. Lou, pinned to the ground by Dr. Ji, showed no fear, opening his mouth with a light chuckle. “Do you know who he is? My charming old ancestor harbors the ambition of sweeping across both realms… What if he truly succeeds?”

“Don't think I can't see through you; you're just using him,” Dr. Ji's eyes narrowed slightly. “What is your true objective?”

Dr. Lou said nothing, just looked at him quietly, the smile on his lips unwavering.

The next moment, a rustling sound came from nearby.

“My head hurts so much… Damn it, what happened?”

Lu Xun groaned as he climbed out of bed, one hand holding his head, his expression pained.

Hearing the sound, Dr. Ji's brow furrowed unconsciously. He knew he couldn't continue. He couldn't kill Dr. Lou now, and if he continued and was noticed, it might alter history.

Amidst Dr. Lou's cold chuckle, Dr. Ji released his grip on Dr. Lou's throat and slowly stood up from the ground.

Dr. Lou also unhurriedly got to his feet, dusting off his clothes as if nothing had happened…

“What are you two doing?” Lu Xun looked around blankly and, seeing Dr. Ji and Dr. Lou standing together, asked instinctively.

“Nothing,” Dr. Lou chuckled. “Just chatting casually…”

As they spoke, several figures in white lab coats lifted the tent flap. Seeing that Lu Xun and the other two had woken up, they were pleasantly surprised.

“They're awake! Someone's awake!”

When Yang Xiao woke up, it was already dusk.

Most of the surrounding beds were already empty; only Wu Tongyuan remained, sleeping soundly on his bed. It was unclear if he was still unconscious or if his unconsciousness had blended into sleep, but judging by the drool at the corner of his mouth, he didn't seem to be in any life-threatening danger.

Beside him, Lu Xun sat in a chair, engrossed in reading a paper, seemingly dedicated to accompanying Wu Tongyuan.

“My head hurts so much…” Yang Xiao felt the pain radiating from his head, and his brow furrowed unconsciously.

“Yang Xiao? You're awake.”

Lu Xun heard his voice, put down the paper, and walked over. “It's normal to have a headache now, though I don't know why… But based on how the others recovered, it should subside in about two or three minutes.”

Yang Xiao tried to recall what happened before he lost consciousness, but found gaps in his memory. He looked around blankly, asking confusedly:

“Is this the outpost? Are we back?”

“Yes,” Lu Xun nodded slightly, his gaze passing through the tent flap to the people packing up tents and preparing to withdraw in the sunset. “Although I don't know exactly what happened… it seems we've become entangled in something significant.”
