“What is she doing?”
The assassins were about to charge forward when they saw a faint glow emanating from Su Zhiwei’s body, causing them to instinctively frown.
In the ethereal void, a faint light enveloped her like the gentle sound of a trickling spring. Within the microscopic world, unseen by the naked eye, countless minuscule "strings" vibrated at varying frequencies. These strings, omnipresent, formed every particle in existence.
Under Su Zhiwei’s “command,” their frequencies were subtly shifting. From a macroscopic view, it appeared as though the fundamental composition of matter itself was transforming: the diffuse air solidified, and a powerful gust of wind, originating from Su Zhiwei, surged outwards in all directions.
The assassins, each gripping their sharp weapons, felt their clothes whip violently in the howling wind. They instinctively tensed their bodies. The next instant, the white-clad figure, propelled by the fierce gust, blurred and appeared directly in front of them!
In the night rain, the faint glow in Su Zhiwei’s eyes moved so rapidly it left trails. With a whistling sound, a heavy punch slammed into the chest of the foremost assassin!
THUD—!!
Su Zhiwei’s movements were more than twice as fast as before. The battle-hardened assassin had no time to react; before he could even raise his hands to block, his chest abruptly caved in from Su Zhiwei’s powerful fist!
A circular shockwave emanated from the point of impact, tearing a momentary gap in the continuous night rain. A mouthful of blood spewed from the assassin’s throat, and he flew backward like a broken kite, crashing heavily to the ground.
Su Zhiwei glanced at her palm, a flicker of surprise deep in her eyes.
“This is… ‘string’ resonance?”
Unlike the previous night, Su Zhiwei this time did not attempt to forcefully command a large number of ‘strings.’ Instead, she focused on resonating only with the ‘strings’ that came into contact with her skin – in other words, the air itself.
With a reduced number of ‘strings’ to command and their closer proximity, Su Zhiwei found her control significantly smoother this time. She appeared to be gradually mastering the secret to commanding the ‘strings.’
“Attack together!”
Su Zhiwei’s sudden attack startled the three remaining assassins. They simultaneously moved, wielding their weapons from three different directions, thrusting towards her body at the center!
A bayonet, a dagger, and a short knife – three streaks of cold light whistled through the air, lunging at her from extremely cunning angles!
Su Zhiwei caught sight of this from the corner of her eye but did not immediately dodge. Instead, she narrowed her eyes, dedicating all her energy to mobilizing the ‘strings’ around her, doubling the speed of their resonance!
HUMMMM—!!
As the sharp edges of the three weapons made contact with Su Zhiwei’s body, something uncanny occurred.
The surface of Su Zhiwei’s body seemed to be coated with a mysterious ‘membrane.’ The instant the metal weapons touched her, their constituent microscopic particles uncontrollably began to transform into a different type of particle. At an even finer microscopic level, one could observe that the ‘strings’ forming these particles, upon nearing the ‘strings’ surrounding Su Zhiwei, were being assimilated into the same frequency…
The ‘strings’ were resonating, and concurrently, the metal atoms were transforming into another substance—air.
The moment they touched Su Zhiwei, the three weapons began to disintegrate and dissipate, much like a finely sculpted sandcastle crumbling into nothingness upon hitting a wall.
The bayonet pierced Su Zhiwei’s body, leaving only a dark red mark that did not break the skin when it was pulled out; the bayonet itself, however, was significantly shortened. The dagger and short knife ripped through her training uniform, but their blades instantly became smooth and dull, completely losing their offensive capability.
This bizarre sight left the three assassins momentarily stunned. They stared blankly at their weapons, unable to comprehend what had just transpired.
The next moment, a powerful gust swept past them. Su Zhiwei’s palm strike instantly batted away the bayonet, then she kicked it several meters, sending it crashing through glass and into the corridor.
“Damn it, what in the world was that?!”
The other two assassins snapped back to reality and immediately retreated, attempting to put distance between themselves and this ‘monster.’
Her white training uniform fluttered in the night rain. Su Zhiwei stepped into a puddle, and as water droplets splashed, her figure pierced through the rain curtain, closely pursuing the two assassins!
The roles of prey and hunter had instantly reversed!
A ruthless glint flashed in the eyes of one of the assassins. He reached into a hidden pocket in his clothing, and a hand grenade appeared in his palm.
“I refuse to believe this won’t kill you!”
He bit off the safety pin with his teeth and hurled the grenade with all his might towards Su Zhiwei!
In the dimly lit courtyard, the dark hand grenade tore through the rain, flying straight towards Su Zhiwei’s face as she charged forward… Su Zhiwei’s pupils abruptly constricted.
“Watch out!” Yao Qing’s cry of alarm rang out from the side.
Everything happened too quickly. Neither Su Zhiwei nor Yao Qing had anticipated the opponent possessing a hand grenade. Su Zhiwei had no time to dodge. She hardened her resolve, reaching out with her bare hands to seize the incoming grenade, and a blinding light instantly erupted from her pupils!
BOOM—!!
An earth-shattering detonation echoed through the air!
Surging flames erupted instantly, like a blazing sun bursting forth in the dark night rain. The accompanying gale scattered the surrounding willow trees, and the two assassins halted, expressions of triumph appearing in their eyes.
No human could survive a grenade explosion at such close range… Su Zhiwei’s death was a certainty; they were the ultimate victors.
However, before they could even move, the smiles on their lips suddenly froze.
The blazing sun of the grenade explosion suddenly began to churn violently, the raging flames appearing to be ensnared and guided by an unseen force, writhing like a frenzied python. Concurrently, a figure slowly emerged from the heart of the inferno…
Her white training uniform was tattered and singed. A charred arm slowly parted the writhing flames as Su Zhiwei stepped onto the watery ground, wisps of white mist drifting from the corners of her mouth.
Her pupils reflected the surrounding flames and the high-frequency, frenzied dance of the ‘string sea’—the very essence of ‘fire,’ and an exhilarating symphony unfolding before her.
“This is… the sonata of ‘fire’…”
As Su Zhiwei’s charred hands suddenly clenched into fists, the writhing flame pythons intertwined around her. With a forceful step forward, the flames from the grenade explosion instantly compressed, then violently ‘re-ignited’ a second time directly in front of Su Zhiwei!
A surging inferno instantly swept through the rain, engulfing the two bewildered and terrified assassins.
“AHHHHHH!!!”
Two screams pierced the night. They tried desperately to flee but were burned to cinders in mere breaths. After stumbling for a couple of steps, they fell with a thud, their bodies shattering upon impact.
The assassins’ bodies lay scattered across the courtyard. In the corner, Yao Qing stared at the graceful figure wreathed in flames, her mouth agape in disbelief…
The lingering flames dissipated with a wave of Su Zhiwei’s hand, and two lines of blood trickled from her nostrils. Su Zhiwei turned her head, about to speak to Yao Qing in the corner, but the next moment, her eyes closed, and she collapsed forward, limp.
