Chapter 693: He has returned

Thick smoke billowed.

The curtain of rain, like a veil lowered by dark clouds, slowly drew back, sweeping the dust swirling in the air back to the ground. Amidst the ravaged streets, a young man knelt, his eyes vacant and lifeless.

A deadly silence.

Aside from the soft patter of raindrops on the ruins, the entire street was eerily silent, as if the roaring gunshots and earth-shattering explosions moments before had all been nothing but a nightmare.

But Kong Baosheng, perhaps, would never wake from his nightmare.

A faint rustle—

A soft sound came from across the street.

Kong Baosheng, lost in despair, jolted sharply. He stiffly, slowly, looked up and saw two tall silver figures that had, at some point, risen from the dust.

Their bodies were covered in remnants of explosives, even with the severed limbs of other "companions" hanging from them, yet despite this, their forms remained relatively intact…

They had survived.

Kong Baosheng’s pupils suddenly constricted!

“How could this be…” Kong Baosheng muttered, staring at the two towering figures. Fear and despair spread wildly within him, and he trembled uncontrollably.

“We’d done so much… How could they still…”

Kong Baosheng mumbled to himself, the image of Huang Suyue rushing into the dessert shop still vivid in his mind, the echo of her hysterical shouts ringing in his ears… Huang Suyue had clearly gambled everything, yet they had still survived?!

Huang Suyue’s final determined figure gradually faded from Kong Baosheng’s sight. The two silver figures, having narrowly escaped death, slowly rose with an oppressive presence…

Fear, despair, fury, resentment…

Kong Baosheng felt as if a sledgehammer was furiously pounding inside him, twisting his entire being in agony. He opened his mouth, wanting to roar—at these disgusting silver monsters? At the unfair heavens? Or at his own incompetence?

Kong Baosheng didn’t know. He only knew that despite opening his mouth and exerting all his might, he could only produce painful whimpers, his neck veins bulging…

His rage had rendered him speechless.

He watched as the two tall figures rose from the ruins, their flat heads seeming to search for something at their feet. Finally, their “gaze” landed on a broken wall not far away.

A bloodied and mangled girl lay there like a corpse, with only a faint wisp of breath remaining.

Huang Suyue’s dim eyes stared blankly at the gray clouds drifting overhead.

She was still alive.

An explosion of that magnitude could tear apart the hard bodies of the silver monsters, making it seem impossible for her, a mere flesh-and-blood human, to survive… Yet, at the very moment of the explosion, two of the monsters had inexplicably extended themselves at incredible speed, forming two silver shield walls that directly contained most of the explosives.

The explosion instantly shattered these two monsters, but its force was greatly reduced, preventing their complete annihilation.

After the first batch of silver monsters was destroyed, did the next batch automatically learn how to counter explosive traps?

Did these silver monsters share a single mind?

Or rather… were they inherently one entity?

Huang Suyue didn’t know, nor could she ponder it anymore. The impact of the explosion had shattered nearly all her internal organs, and blood continuously seeped around her… Even so, the two silver monsters seemingly had no intention of sparing her.

Their slender legs stepped forward, striding over numerous shattered corpses and fragments of their companions, walking directly towards Huang Suyue.

Huang Suyue’s dim eyes watched them approach, utterly helpless. She couldn’t even sit up, let alone escape. All she could do was laboriously move her hand, inching towards the revolver lying in the pool of blood.

Rather than die at the hands of the silver monsters, Huang Suyue would prefer to end her own life.

The girl’s hand trembled as it moved through the blood. A golden bracelet on her wrist was half submerged in the crimson liquid, one half dully crimson, the other half still gleaming.

Just as her fingertips were about to touch the gun’s grip, a tall silver figure loomed before her.

It blocked the rain and the daylight, plunging the recently glimmering golden bracelet into complete darkness… Blood-stained hair obscured Huang Suyue’s vision. In her dim eyes, only deadly silence and despair remained.

The silver monster’s smooth “face” looked down at Huang Suyue, who was like an ant in the pool of blood, showing no discernible emotion. Its silver arm suddenly transformed into a long spike, the sharp tip pointing at the mangled girl, slowly rising…

At the same time,

In the rippling reflection of the rain,

A figure in a crimson opera robe flashed past.

A cold gleam brought with it a gust of wind, stabbing downwards at immense speed. Just as Huang Suyue instinctively closed her eyes, the long spike suddenly halted in mid-air!

Huang Suyue waited for a long time, but the piercing pain never came. Slowly opening her eyes, she saw that a figure in a crimson opera robe had appeared beside her. With one hand, like an iron pincer, it gripped the silver spike tightly!

Her pupils slightly constricted!!

“Where did this trash come from… trying to kill someone in front of me?”

Chen Ling’s calm voice sounded. The next moment, his slender hand clenched tightly, his terrifying strength overpowering the silver monster, crushing the silver spike to pieces!

Bang—!!

A crisp, loud crack erupted. Tiny silver fragments embedded themselves in Chen Ling’s palm, making it bleed profusely… Yet, he seemed completely unfazed, coldly staring at the silver monster opposite him.

The silver monster hadn’t anticipated anyone appearing at that moment. Its other arm instantly transformed into a long silver blade, whistling as it swung towards Chen Ling’s face!

The pain from his hand transformed into power, surging madly into Chen Ling’s body. The crimson opera robe blurred into an afterimage, vanishing from its spot in an instant, letting the whistling blade sweep through empty air…

The next moment, an afterimage flashed, and five fingers gripped the silver monster’s head from behind, squeezing with sudden force!

Fine cracks spread wildly across the silver monster’s head, which was ultimately crushed by that hand. Fragments clattered to the ground, and the headless body lost its balance, collapsing with a thud.

Seeing this, the second silver monster immediately sprouted countless silver spikes all over its body. Its slender legs moved with extreme speed, turning into a blur as it charged forward!

The figure in the crimson opera robe paid it no mind. He simply reached out and, with a strong twist, detached the silver long blade from the fallen silver monster’s corpse, gripping it in his hand.

Scarlet blood flowed from his fingertips onto the blade’s surface, thoroughly staining it crimson!

Chen Ling held the blade in one hand, tilting his head slightly to look at the whistling silver blur approaching. A gentle breeze ruffled his rain-soaked hair as he casually took a step forward.

The next moment, his figure moved like a fluttering red butterfly, silently gliding through the curtain of rain.
