Wang Jincheng found that Red Heart Six was truly like a ghost.
No one knew where he was or who he had become, like an elusive spirit who would always appear suddenly at unfathomable times and places.
Before this, Wang Jincheng had assumed that Red Heart Nine would leave after toying with him. As a member of the Twilight Society, there was no reason for him to get involved in the Boundary War. Therefore, when Wang Jincheng clearly saw that face, he was utterly shocked.
Chen Ling glanced to the side, casually picked up a wig from the mud, and handed it to Wang Jincheng.
"You can rest now."
Rain and blood dripped from the wig's edges onto the ground. The wig was now trampled and distorted beyond recognition, impossible to wear. Wang Jincheng's expression was incredibly complex.
Nevertheless, he reached out and took it, speaking in a disheveled manner.
"Hongchen is about to fall. Why are you still here?"
"To perform a play."
"…What?"
Wang Jincheng looked at Chen Ling, feeling as if his ears were malfunctioning.
Just as he was about to ask more, he saw several Shadow Centipedes emerge from the ground in the distance. The smallest was about three people tall, while the largest was nearly as tall as a tower.
Half of their bodies remained in the soil, while the other half stood upright in the air, swaying like seaweed in a wild wind. Their scarlet eyes constantly scanned their surroundings, emanating a terrifying aura.
Spotting Wang Jincheng, who was closest, and Chen Ling, who had his back to them, they lunged out like predators discovering prey, assaulting them like black lightning.
"Watch out!" Wang Jincheng immediately cried out.
Although Wang Jincheng saw the Calamities approaching, his body wouldn't obey him. Just as they were about to open their mouths to tear into the two men, Chen Ling frowned and slightly turned his body.
His large red opera robe flapped in the wind as Chen Ling glared at the surging Calamities, and a stern roar suddenly erupted!
"—Begone!!"
The Shadow Calamities abruptly halted.
Their massive bodies froze before Chen Ling, as if they had seen something utterly terrifying. They immediately dispersed in all directions, and after maneuvering, they locked onto the most conspicuous Witchcraft Association members hovering in mid-air, and flew out to attack.
Witnessing this, Chen Ling's eyes narrowed slightly.
Chen Ling had single-handedly broken all the seals connecting to the Ghost Mockery Abyss in the Jinghong Tower district, releasing dozens of Calamities. These Calamities varied in strength; most were Fifth or Sixth Tier, with some smaller Second or Third Tier ones as well.
The strongest among them were the Seventh-Tier Shadow Boa on the bell tower, the Seventh-Tier Shadow Toad that had swallowed a black-robed warlock whole, and a Seventh-Tier Shadow Scorpion that had remained hidden underground.
Such combat power was enough to sweep through everything on the current battlefield in Hongchen Main City. Neither the struggling Fusheng Society nor the severely depleted Witchcraft Association could withstand this army of Calamities.
The problem, however, was that while Chen Ling could command a few minor Calamities, the sheer number of Calamities in this Shadow Army was too vast for him to control. He could only direct them to the battlefield like a hunting rifle driving a pack of wolves.
As for the rest, they were free to act as they pleased.
These Calamities cared not whether their targets were from the Fusheng Society or the Witchcraft Association; killing and destruction were their innate nature. The sudden appearance of such an army of Calamities shattered what had been a one-sided crushing defeat. Those with better-preserved strength naturally became the primary targets of the Calamity army.
"Calamities?!"
"How did so many Calamities suddenly appear in Hongchen Main City?!"
"It's the Ghost Mockery Abyss... Damn it, there are too many!!"
"Save me! Save me!!"
"Disperse quickly!!! That toad is about to jump again!"
Boom—!!!
The Shadow Toad descended like a meteor, crashing among the Witchcraft Association members. The ground cracked, and it directly crushed a black-robed warlock who hadn't managed to escape.
Even those who fled quickly were not safe; moments later, a long, black tongue spun rapidly, ensnaring three fleeing black-robes and dragging them all into the toad's belly!
Additionally, more and more Shadow Calamities rushed into the battlefield, preying on the black-robed figures whose formations had been broken. Cries of alarm and screams intertwined, echoing through the sky amidst the sea of fire.
"Did you summon these Calamities?"
Wang Jincheng, having personally witnessed Chen Ling repel the Calamities with a shout, could not hide his shock. "How did you do that...? No, who exactly are you??"
Humans commanding Calamities was beyond Wang Jincheng's comprehension. To his knowledge, no one could accomplish such a feat, except for the rumored and highly mysterious Fusion Faction.
The flames of battle reflected the shadow of the red robe, swaying like a phantom amidst the ruins.
As the instigator of all this, Chen Ling's gaze was incredibly calm.
He offered no explanation for any of it, simply walking forward in silence. He stomped the ground twice with force, and the next moment, an enormous Shadow Scorpion crawled out from beneath the earth!
Although this scorpion was not as large as the Shadow Toad, its ferocious appearance was incredibly visually striking. The moment it emerged, the black-robed warlocks fleeing towards it were instantly petrified. They stopped dead in their tracks, stiffly looking up, watching as the shadow of the colossal beast obscured their surroundings.
And upon the back of that dark scorpion, the large red opera robe stood majestically, like the sole splash of color in a decaying world.
Bang—!
Before the black-robed warlocks could react, the Shadow Toad descended from above, crushing them into a bloody pulp.
Crimson flowed beneath the toad's feet, and a thunderous sound reverberated and spread from its constantly bulging mouth.
The Shadow Boa clinging to the bell tower silently glided through the shattered silver torrent, carrying countless bodies and blood. It slowly coiled beside the scorpion, its massive snake head flicking its tongue and emitting a sharp hiss.
A giant boa, a scorpion, a toad;
Three colossal mountains, suppressing the battlefield with unparalleled might. Their combined auras intertwined, forming an insurmountable wall of death.
And upon their backs, the large red opera robe danced wildly in silence.
Like a king commanding an iron cavalry, personally arriving on the battlefield!
"Where did that person in red come from?!"
"He can actually stand on top of a Calamity? And he's not being attacked??"
"Wait... he... he seems to be..."
"I've seen him on a wanted poster! He's Chen Ling! Red Heart Six of the Twilight Society, Chen Ling!!"
"Is he the madman who single-handedly caused the destruction of the Aurora Realm??"
"They're endless... There are too many Calamities! We can't kill them all!!!"
Chen Ling no longer gazed down at the battlefield being swept by the army of Calamities. Instead, he slowly raised his head, looking towards the sky.
Leading the Ghost Mockery Abyss to attack the Witchcraft Association was merely a beginning, and the easiest thing he could currently do. His true objective was not here.
Chen Ling gazed at the center of the dark clouds, where the alchemy array was hidden, a sharp glint in his eyes.
