Finally, I've finished writing the Mortal Realm.
Volume Two is considerably longer than Volume One, primarily because this section contains an immense amount of information. It covers everything from the epochal archives revealing the origin of the Nine Sovereigns and introducing the Emperor God Dao; to entering the Ancient Opera Trove and meeting my master and fellow disciples; to learning several major secret techniques; to three separate entries into the Mortal Realm; to the revival of the Startling Swan Pavilion; and finally, to the Crimson Heaven Sect and the Realm War.
Putting everything else aside, the Realm War segment alone spans over a hundred chapters. After all, it involves so many demigod-level characters and a vast cast. Even though Sanjiu (scratch that, Erjiu) streamlined the storyline as much as possible, it still took a long time to write.
If Volume One, the Aurora Realm, was the starting point of this story, then Volume Two expanded the entire worldview of the narrative. There was simply too much to write. The good news is that subsequent volumes shouldn't be as long (hopefully! hopefully!!). If they are, then consider this statement unsaid, as some things, once I start writing, I can't quite control... Who would have thought that Li Qingshan and Kong Baosheng, whom I originally planned to eliminate, actually survived?
Regarding the main theme of Volume Two and what I intended to convey, I don't think it's necessary to explicitly state it again... In short, you should be able to feel that the core of Volume Two is different from Volume One. Volume One was comparatively more despairing than Volume Two. In the Mortal Realm, however, what's predominantly shown is the sense of human strength, familial love, romantic love, and friendship that emerges even amidst despair. In fact, the book's synopsis itself distinguishes the two volumes:
Volume One: In this era, humanity is as insignificant as dust.Volume Two: In this era, humanity shines like stars.
Sanjiu won't go into detail here, definitely not because I'm rushing to write the next chapter, and certainly not because I'm worried about getting scolded tonight for a missed or late update...
On another note, I wanted to share some experiences regarding the integration of intangible cultural heritage like Peking Opera, Su embroidery, and the awakened lion dance (which will be featured soon) into the story. This is actually my first time attempting such an integration, and few other works on the market delve into these aspects. It's incredibly fulfilling to weave traditional culture into the narrative, allowing more readers to learn about, become curious about, and appreciate it. Rest assured, while other intangible cultural heritage elements will appear later, they won't detract from the overall reading experience.
Now, for a quick preview of the next volume.
In Volume Three, some "familiar faces" will return (the term "familiar faces" might carry several layers of meaning here), and Chen Ling will also master some new "plays." There might also be new developments regarding Chen Ling's true identity...
Volume One primarily introduced the Twilight Society, and Volume Two brought in the Society's high-ranking members, specifically the Ancient Opera Trove sect. Now, in Volume Three, it's time for the main protagonist group to make their appearance. In short, you can look forward to it.
The fact that you've read this far and finished Volume Two indicates that you appreciate "Opera God" to some extent. Sanjiu invested a tremendous amount of effort into writing "Opera God" well... In the previous end-of-volume summary, Sanjiu also mentioned that "Opera God" would have a higher barrier to entry. However, judging by its performance, "Opera God" is now on par with "God Slaying," which is truly remarkable... But Sanjiu is still hoping to push it even further.
If possible, I hope everyone can help promote "Opera God" and create some memes for it. Sanjiu thanks you all profusely here.
So, everyone, see you in the next volume!
