Execute the Nine Monarchs?
Everyone looked at Kongwang as if he were a madman, especially the representatives from the five major realms, whose expressions were a sight to behold!
One must understand that the Nine Monarchs are the very foundation of the nine major realms. Executing them would mean the complete collapse of all nine realms, and everything would be utterly consumed by the Grey Realm.
His request was akin to asking them to exterminate their own people...
Kongwang's demand was so absurd it was laughable.
“If you want to joke, I can have my young son, who’s still in school, come and joke with you all day long… he loves jokes,” the representative from the South Sea Realm chuckled.
But then, his expression turned cold. “However, we are not here to joke with you.”
“This is not a joke,” Kongwang said unhurriedly.
“I know that several of your realms still hide demigods. Even without the Nine Monarchs to provide realm support, your demigods could temporarily sustain domains, allowing a small number of humans to live under protection. It wouldn’t lead to complete annihilation…
But if you don’t execute all Nine Monarchs within two years, humanity will surely perish.”
At this, the expressions of all realm representatives changed.
Perhaps it was Kongwang revealing the existence of demigods in several major realms, or his “humanity’s demise” theory, or perhaps his serious intent to have the realms execute the Nine Monarchs… In any case, at this moment, the representatives all realized the gravity of the situation.
No wonder Kongwang insisted on taking the participants as hostages to force them into negotiations. If he had simply approached the representatives of the five major realms and declared, “I want you to execute the Nine Monarchs,” he would likely have been apprehended immediately, with no chance for an equal dialogue.
“What does the demise of humanity have to do with executing the Nine Monarchs? What nonsense are you spouting?” the representative from the Xuan Yu Realm frowned and spoke.
“The emergence of the Ghost-God Path is always accompanied by a great catastrophe… This statement is not idle talk,” Kongwang said calmly. “However, my appearance itself does not trigger a catastrophe; rather, the Ghost Gate only opens when a great catastrophe is imminent for humanity. My presence here is proof that a major disaster is approaching.”
“A great catastrophe? Where would such a catastrophe come from??”
“Could it be the Boundless Realm…?”
The realm representatives exchanged glances and fell into thought.
“No, even if the Boundless Realm is truly dangerous, at most it would only involve executing the Boundless Monarch… What does that have to do with the other Nine Monarchs?” the Pagoda Lord said in a deep voice.
“A single Boundless Monarch would not cause the Ghost Gate to open; he doesn’t qualify as a ‘catastrophe’… I’m referring to something even more fundamental than the Nine Monarchs,” Kongwang shook his head.
“More fundamental?”
“If we’re not mistaken…” Kongwang raised his hand and pointed to the sky. “It’s about to return.”
The realm representatives froze for a moment, then, as if something dawned on them, their faces instantly paled.
“The Crimson Star?!”
The Pagoda Lord murmured to himself.
As the current Pagoda Lord of the Tongtian Pagoda, he firmly believed in the Tian Shu Monarch’s prophecy that the Crimson Star would one day return to Earth. Calculating its trajectory was precisely the mission of the Tian Shu Realm… When Kongwang pointed to the sky, the Pagoda Lord immediately understood what the 'great catastrophe' referred to.
“If that’s the case, shouldn’t we protect the Nine Monarchs even more?” the Pagoda Lord said gravely.
“During the period preceding the Great Cataclysm three hundred years ago, humanity suffered heavy losses because we lacked the Nine Monarchs. In this era, although our technology is not as advanced as before the Cataclysm, we have the Nine Monarchs and demigods among us. They are our reliance against the Crimson Star!”
“Why do you think the Crimson Star is returning?” Kongwang asked lightly.
The Pagoda Lord pondered for a moment. “We don’t know that yet. Calculating its trajectory is precisely the objective of our Tian Shu Realm…”
“Because a part of it was left on Earth. It is returning to retrieve what it lost,” Kongwang continued. “And the Nine Monarchs are the vessels for that part… In other words, it is the Nine Monarchs who have drawn it here.”
Kongwang’s words stunned everyone present.
“Its fragments created the Nine Monarchs, and the Nine Monarchs have protected you… But now, they will become the source of a second catastrophe.
When it descends for a second time, no one will survive—you, the Nine Monarchs, or even the Netherworld, all will be utterly destroyed.
Therefore, the best way to prevent all of this is to execute the Nine Monarchs now.”
Kongwang’s words exploded like a bombshell in everyone’s ears… Even Chen Ling, who had been running through the old district while listening to the conversation on a walkie-talkie, slowly stopped, his face betraying unconcealed shock.
The sheer volume of information in these statements left the five realm representatives momentarily frozen. Their minds raced.
Soon, the representative from the Tian Shu Realm, the Pagoda Lord of the Tongtian Pagoda, spoke with a frown:
“I have a few questions:
First, do you have any evidence to support your claim that the Crimson Star is coming for the Nine Monarchs?
Second, assuming you are correct and the Crimson Star is indeed coming for the Nine Monarchs, how can you be certain that executing them will make the Crimson Star bypass Earth? The death of the Nine Monarchs doesn’t necessarily mean the dispersal of the Crimson Star’s power on Earth, does it? What if that power simply manifests in another form?
Third, if all of the above is true, does that mean the Crimson Star is actually a sentient entity? If so, would it not become enraged by the disappearance of its residual power and thus become even more determined to destroy Earth?
Fourth, is everything you’ve said merely your personal opinion, or is it a conclusion from the Ancient Ghost Scroll or the Netherworld?”
After all, as the leader of the Tian Shu Realm and a master of Ingenuity Path, the Pagoda Lord possessed logical reasoning abilities far beyond ordinary people. Kongwang’s few words could not sway his thoughts, and he quickly presented his counterarguments.
Kongwang frowned, gazing at the Pagoda Lord. After a long silence, he finally replied:
“All of this originates from the prophecies and deductions of our Six Paths of the Ghost Treasury within the Netherworld… We cannot provide you with any evidence, nor can we guarantee that everything is absolutely correct…
However, executing the Nine Monarchs is, for humanity, undoubtedly the most promising and quickest method.”
“In other words, the feasibility is unknown.” The Pagoda Lord nodded slightly. “I apologize, but we will not execute the Nine Monarchs… at least not until we gather concrete evidence. We will not abandon the living environment of hundreds of millions of people and execute the Nine Monarchs based solely on your word.”
The other four realm representatives shared the same sentiment. The potential chain reactions following the execution of the Nine Monarchs were far more unacceptable to them than the uncertain advent of the Crimson Star.
Kongwang seemed unsurprised by their decision. He merely shook his head with a hint of helplessness and let out a long sigh…
