Chapter 2075: Steady Victory Should Not Lead to Arrogance

It was as if the entire mountain was a prison, suppressing the dark figure beneath it.

The dark figure was enormous, its size resembling the dinosaurs Zu An had seen in movies from his previous life.

Zu An had no time for reflection; he quickly took out the last divine artifact, the Sky Cloud Sword, attempting to reseal the snow mountain. However, the sword showed no reaction after being drawn, completely unlike the previous two divine artifacts, which had resonated with the mountain's seal.

For a moment, he didn't know how to reseal the snow mountain, so he urgently asked the Snow Goddess, "You have a strong connection to the Great Snow Mountain. Do you know how to reseal it?"

The Snow Goddess shook her head. "I never knew these snow mountains were seals before," she replied.

Zu An was speechless.

Just then, the dark figure beneath the snow mountain let out a deafening roar, as if the entire vast snow mountain range was trembling. Some powerful snow beasts in the distance cowered on the ground, trembling.

Zu An clearly felt a soul-deep shiver emanating from within him. However, his willpower was now extraordinary, and he quickly suppressed this unsettling sensation.

Only then did he have a chance to closely examine the dark figure. Upon seeing it clearly, he was startled. How could this thing look like both a Tyrannosaurus Rex and an Alien Queen? It had a grotesque head, a mouth full of massive, sharp teeth, and stood on two stout, powerful legs. Its two front arms were considerably more slender, but each claw was a devastatingly sharp weapon. Its thick tail, like a third leg, swayed freely, subtly radiating destructive power, as if ready to strike at any moment.

At this moment, the Shadow Demon King also showed a hint of apprehension in its eyes. It floated to a spot not far from the other entity and said, "Noble Lord of Slaughter, I have freed you. According to our agreement from long ago, we should establish a soul contract."

Zu An's heart skipped a beat. No wonder that creature exuded such a murderous aura and looked exactly like a weapon of slaughter; the name certainly fit.

He wouldn't dare to treat this creature as an ordinary beast. The powerful oppressive force emanating from it, palpable even from afar, and the cruelty and shrewdness in its eyes, indicated it was definitely a highly intelligent being.

Furthermore, seeing the Shadow Demon King's cautious and respectful demeanor, the other entity's status and power were clearly no less than its own.

The Lord of Slaughter nodded and said in a muffled, rumbling voice, "Indeed."

It seemed it hadn't spoken for too long, as its voice was extremely hoarse and unpleasant, shaking the nearby snow mountains.

The Shadow Demon King visibly exhaled in relief, a hint of joy appearing in its eyes. It had come here following ancient legends from its own race, knowing that the Lord of Slaughter was a renowned and powerful entity from ancient times. Its original plan was to sign a contract with it while it was sealed, making it its own pet.

With its own power and that of the Lord of Slaughter, it could secure a place for itself even in some of the most powerful worlds in the universe.

Initially, it had been confident in this plan, as its cultivation and skills were sufficiently powerful, giving it ample confidence even against legendary ancient beings, let alone one that was sealed.

But just now, it had been a little uneasy. After all, its true body had been slain by Zu An not long ago, and the power of this clone was greatly reduced. It could no longer be as unconcerned as before when facing the Lord of Slaughter.

Fortunately, the Lord of Slaughter still adhered to the oath it had made back then. Once the soul contract was signed, the other party would be unable to betray it.

With the powerful Lord of Slaughter as a pet and guardian, its currently weakened state would allow it to slowly recover its peak strength, without having to worry about enemies seeking it out in the interim.

As it thought of this, the smile in its eyes grew wider. It wasted no time and quickly chanted a spell, as if a waterfall of mysterious runes descended between heaven and earth.

Zu An attempted to raise his Sun-Shooting Bow again to interrupt, but the Snow Goddess stopped him. "Their contract has been recognized by heaven and earth," she said. "If you attack now, you will only invite retaliation from them."

Hearing this, Zu An couldn't help but say dejectedly, "Then once they complete the contract, won't we be lambs to the slaughter?"

To have paid such a heavy price to gravely injure the Shadow Demon King, only for it to gain an even more powerful helper — the thought alone was despair-inducing.

The Snow Goddess, however, smiled slightly. "Dying together with you wouldn't be so hard to accept," she said.

Zu An stared at her in confusion.

"Seriously, Big Sister," he thought, "at a time like this, are you really getting sentimental?"

His energy was entirely focused on figuring out how to deal with the current situation, and he had no mind to ask her what was going on.

Mei Xi's "Nanchao Farewell" skill could indeed sever contracts, but her power was far too inferior compared to these two entities, so the skill's judgment would likely not take effect. Moreover, even if the contract was successfully severed, the Lord of Slaughter would become even more uncontrollable...

Just then, the contract ritual on the other side was complete. The Shadow Demon King burst into loud laughter. "I never thought I could acquire such a powerful pet!" it roared. "In the future, I will surely conquer more worlds and become the supreme being in all realms of the universe!"

The Lord of Slaughter said in a muffled, rumbling voice, "The contract is done. Now, release me."

Seeing this, Zu An quickly shot an arrow at the Shadow Demon King. He no longer had the strength to loose a true Sun-Shooting Arrow, but the Shadow Demon King was also not as powerful as before. He hoped to stop it in time.

"Haha, too late!" the Shadow Demon King cackled maniacally. From the very beginning, it had subtly prolonged the process of refining this seal. Initially, it was just its instinctive caution, as having conquered so many worlds, it had witnessed too many bizarre events and abilities and knew that no matter how certain victory seemed, one should never become arrogant. Now, it increasingly admired its own foresight.

It had never expected that a native of this world could actually slay its true body, but fortunately, it had been one step ahead, leaving this contingency plan.

He saw the Shadow Demon King form a hand seal, and a beam of light shot towards the snow mountain. Soon, the golden ethereal chains that had remained on the mountain began to break apart.

With a world-shaking roar, the Lord of Slaughter leapt out from beneath the mountain, and only then did the snow mountain settle back down, but alas, there was nothing left underneath to suppress.

The arrow Zu An had shot had just reached the Shadow Demon King when a massive maw appeared nearby, biting the arrow in one swift motion. Then, with a clack of its teeth, the Sun-Shooting Arrow, crafted by the Demon Emperor to rival immortal-grade weapons, was simply chewed into fragments.

Zu An was stunned.

Every one of this creature's teeth was harder than an immortal sword weapon!

Could it be that its entire mouth was filled with divine weapons?

Seeing this, the Shadow Demon King laughed even harder. It flew to the Lord of Slaughter's head and reached out to stroke its head. "Well done!" it praised.

With such a powerful pet, it could already imagine how it would take it to crush its various arch-enemies.

Just then, the Lord of Slaughter suddenly grinned, revealing its fearsome teeth, and with lightning speed, bit directly into the Shadow Demon King.

After all, the Shadow Demon King was a formidable overlord and reacted swiftly, but half of its body was still bitten off. Only its upper half remained, fleeing in terror. Black liquid, presumably its blood, dripped continuously from the wound.

"You actually thought I'd be your pet? You're not worthy!" The Lord of Slaughter chewed for a moment, then, with a gulp, swallowed the Shadow Demon King's severed half. A look of satisfaction appeared on its face. "It's been far, far too long since I last ate," it murmured. "This taste is truly delightful."

Seeing this scene, Zu An was startled as well and quickly shielded the Snow Goddess, retreating a short distance.

"You... why can you harm me?" The Shadow Demon King's face was filled with terror and bewilderment. It knew that they had signed a master-servant contract, and as a pet, the primary rule was not to harm its master, to obey the master's commands unconditionally, and for the master to be able to dictate the pet's life or death at any time.

A hint of mockery appeared on the Lord of Slaughter's face. "You must not know that the contract spell you so painstakingly sought out was actually left behind by me, back then, did you?" it sneered.

"Impossible! This is indeed a master-servant contract spell," the Shadow Demon King cried, its expression twisting. It wasn't foolish; how could it not have examined the spell?

"This is indeed a master-servant contract spell," the Lord of Slaughter affirmed. "Unfortunately, I subtly inserted a hidden condition into it: that the strong become master, and the weak become servant. It's a pity, but you are weaker than me now. In reality, after the contract, I am the master, and you are my servant and pet."

The Shadow Demon King was utterly dumbfounded.
