Chapter 4742: History of the Age of Chaos

On the Continent of Chaos, at Qinglian Immortal Island.

In a tranquil manor, Wang Qiuting and Wang Chuanlin sat in an azure stone pavilion. Piled high on the azure stone table before them were numerous books and jade slips, all obtained by Wang Qingling and her two companions from an ancient cultivator's cave dwelling.

Wang Chuanlin was currently at the late-stage Grand Unity Golden Immortal cultivation level, having been stuck at a bottleneck for many years.

Wang Qiuting frowned, holding a thick blue book titled 'Chaos History Records' on its cover. She remarked that the 'Great Dao War' was a time of immense suffering, ushering in new eras. According to this ancient text, every few hundred million years, the Immortal Realm would experience a Great Dao War. Many Dao Ancestors would battle together, divided into two factions: one led by the Primal Chaos Beasts, and the other by Immortals, who comprised numerous races.

After each war, the Immortal Realm would be ravaged, and the Primal Chaos Beasts would emerge victorious. The Ten Directions Mother-Child Pagoda would then unleash a massacre, devouring vast numbers of Immortals to strengthen itself. This period was known as the Dark Era. Survivors would hide and recuperate. New life forms would gradually appear in the Immortal Realm, developing over several hundred million years until the Dao Ancestors of both Immortals and Primal Chaos Beasts had largely recovered, at which point another war would erupt.

They had fought more than a dozen times, with the Primal Chaos Beasts winning every time. Countless Immortals were slain, leaving vast gaps in history, primarily due to the overwhelming power of the Primal Chaos Beast Ancestor. Each defeat led to the destruction of countless Immortals and many ancient texts, including the Secret Method of Opening Ten Apertures. The Primal Chaos Beasts sought to destroy the very foundation of the Immortals. While the Primal Chaos Beasts could annihilate most life forms in the Immortal Realm, they could not eliminate those in the lower realms. This was because a cluster of realms contained tens of thousands of spiritual realms, each overseeing multiple human realms. No matter how many Immortals the Primal Chaos Beasts killed, cultivators from the lower realms ascending to the Immortal Realm would provide fresh blood, allowing the Immortal Realm to gradually recover and prosper.

Wang Chuanlin said slowly that according to the ancient texts, many Dao Ancestors achieved Daohood through Supreme Laws in the Chaos Era. The era they were currently in was a new one, largely because Immortals were defeated by Primal Chaos Beasts in the last Great Dao War. Most of the forces in the current Immortal Realm emerged in this new era. Their Old Ancestor was considered the foremost figure of this new era; even though the texts recorded many powerful individuals, most could only master one Supreme Law. From that perspective, their Old Ancestor truly stood as the preeminent figure. Wang Changsheng and Wang Ruyan both mastered two Supreme Laws, while other Immortals only mastered one.

Wang Qiuting said that the foremost figure of each new era would lead other Dao Ancestors in a desperate fight against the Primal Chaos Beasts, but they all failed in the past. The strongest on the Immortals' side was Xuanyuan Jie, who died in the Great Dao War. Wang Chuanlin asked, bewildered, if there was truly a realm above Dao Ancestor. Wang Qiuting was astonished, stating it was hard to say, as they hadn't reached that level and couldn't verify it, and what the texts recorded might not be entirely true. She questioned if the super forces of the Chaos Era — such as the Dao Clan’s Wu Family, the Five Jies of Shangguan, the Seven Immortals of Tiangong, and the Nine Sages of Tatian — were really so terrifying, with some forces possessing five, six, or even over ten Dao Ancestors.

According to the 'Chaos History Records,' there were many super forces in the Chaos Era, with some individual super forces reportedly possessing over ten Dao Ancestors, which was truly astounding. The Wang family had two Dao Ancestors who achieved Daohood through Supreme Laws, making them the strongest force apart from the Primal Chaos Beasts. However, in the Chaos Era, the Wang family would not have been the strongest at all; though, of course, they wouldn't have been insignificant and would still have held considerable influence.

Wang Chuanlin said in surprise that Dao Ancestors in the Chaos Era actually possessed high-grade Dao artifacts. Xuanyuan Jie’s natal Dao artifact was a top-grade Dao artifact, which had been destroyed by the Primal Chaos Beast Ancestor, and that both Xuanyuan Jie’s and the Primal Chaos Beast Ancestor’s natal Dao artifacts could devour other Dao artifacts to strengthen themselves.

Wang Qiuting put down the ancient text, her mind unsettled for a long time, her expression solemn. So many powerful Dao Ancestors had perished in the Chaos Era. How many Dao Ancestors were left in the current Immortal Realm? If the Great Dao War erupted again, could Immortals defeat the Primal Chaos Beasts?

Wang Chuanlin speculated that the Chaos Era was magnificent, producing countless talented individuals, and that the three Dao artifacts must have been born after the last Great Dao War, as they were not mentioned in the ancient texts at all. Wang Qiuting said that it was too early to discuss these things now. She suggested they organize the information properly, hoping that understanding that blank period of history would be useful to their Old Ancestor. Wang Chuanlin nodded in agreement.

Elsewhere in the Immortal Realm, a vast, boundless black desert lay. Fierce winds howled across it, stirring up countless black grains of sand. Wang Yingjie, Wang Mengbin, and Ye Haitang stood high in the sky, their brows furrowed.

Wang Mengbin asked with a frown where they were, noting that the immortal qi was very thin. They had received news that an immortal wood growing for hundreds of millions of years existed somewhere. Using the Ruyi Gate, they rushed to the immortal domain where the wood was located and entered a perilous area to search for it. However, they were swept to this place by a spatial storm. Fortunately, they had cultivated top-grade immortal bodies and possessed many treasures, so they were unharmed. The immortal qi here was sparse. Not to mention Immortals, they hadn't even encountered a low-level demonic beast. Wang Mengbin and his two companions had no idea where they were.

Ye Haitang said to wait, as there was something unusual ahead. She grabbed at the void with her right hand, causing ripples to spread and the void to tear open, revealing a massive void. A tattered yellow banner flew out from it, heading towards Ye Haitang. Ye Haitang carefully examined the yellow banner. Its surface was torn and ragged, and its pole was covered in cracks.

Wang Yingjie asked Old Ancestor Haitang what rank of immortal formation it was. Ye Haitang’s expression turned grim as she revealed that it wasn’t the main formation flag, but actually a top-grade immortal artifact, suggesting they might have stumbled into a five-tier immortal formation. Wang Mengbin and Wang Yingjie were utterly shocked at the mention of a five-tier immortal formation.

Ye Haitang analyzed, reassuring them that the immortal formation was severely damaged. She estimated that they had either entered a Dao Ancestor’s training ground, currently in its outer perimeter, or some forbidden area, and that the formation, having run for many years, could not exert much power. Wang Yingjie asked, puzzled, if it couldn’t be a forbidden area of some major force. Ye Haitang analyzed that it was possible, but logically, they should have discovered them. If it truly was a forbidden area of a major force, they could have activated the restrictions to kill them by then. She pondered that perhaps they could no longer activate the formation, or maybe all those people were dead and the formation was unmanaged.

Wang Mengbin said that regardless, they should escape this predicament as soon as possible, as he certainly didn’t want to waste a chance at resurrection here. The three of them had successfully cleared the Qiankun Pagoda, earning a chance at resurrection. After all, this was within the coverage of a five-tier grand formation. If someone were to activate the formation, even a damaged five-tier immortal formation could still kill them.

Ye Haitang nodded and said that if the formation was currently unmanaged, escaping was only a matter of time, and she hoped no one was controlling it. Wang Yingjie’s face was full of curiosity. He noted that even if someone controlled the formation to kill them, they could still revive using the Primordial Ranking. He was more curious about where this place was, wondering if it could be a Dao Ancestor’s training ground. Ye Haitang said it was hard to say, and they should leave the place first.

The three of them flew into the distance, departing from the area.
