At this moment, Kalz had just evolved a new species that had crawled ashore and emerged from the sea. He then saw this immense being, shrouded in mist, sitting on a chair, murmuring to itself while drinking tea. He was utterly dumbfounded.
This scene had quite an impact on him.
"The enlightened being who designed this game—what kind of existence did they design within it, whose level is unknown? Creating epochs, combined with the scenes of life's origin here—what they're doing is self-evident... Their audacity is simply too great, isn't it?"
Kalz was so astonished that he gaped, unsure of what to say.
While it was natural for beings like them to design "toys" for amusement, the current situation resembled two beings engaged in a game of chess.
However, it was well-known that the more powerful an enlightened being, an existence transcending cosmic laws and rules, the more reverence they held for nature and the universe. They would never act so sacrilegiously or ostentatiously. Only mortals would defy the heavens, point at the sky and earth, and curse them for injustice. As great cosmic existences, transcending all laws, with billions of enlightened cells comprising their very being, creating countless extraordinary worlds, they were already considered "heaven" by mortals.
"Too audacious," he whispered to himself, "I haven't seen such a bold existence in a long time... This mysterious game access point I found is becoming increasingly complex." He organized his thoughts, murmuring, "Perhaps, for me, it could even be a fortuitous encounter..."
The differences between enlightened beings were vast. If a powerful, mysterious cosmic entity had created this game on a whim, even a minuscule share of its favor would be enough to benefit him greatly.
"Indeed, going to the front lines... always leads to some marvelous opportunities, as crisis and opportunity always coexist..."
He continued to evolve species, observing discreetly and with great patience.
"The greatest mystery of the universe is life, and the greatest mystery of life is its origin... A terrifying, forbidden titan is creating a game, simulating the entire cosmos!!"
Fortunately, he felt he had not been discovered. He was merely one among the myriad strange creatures emerging from the ocean, hidden in their midst. Within these species, there was a struggle, evolution, and reproduction, with various rapid evolutions occurring at a visible pace.
"I wonder if the game's owner has noticed an outsider has entered?"
Of course, in his view, this being might simply be a background element of the game's setting, and might not notice or acknowledge them as "evolutionary players."
He remained hidden and continued his evolution, transforming into a green, muscular, cloth-like creature, similar to his own native game species, as he understood his own race most profoundly.
"Where are the others who came in with me? They must also be hidden among the vast numbers of cellular organisms, evolving."
As he continued to evolve, the more astounding he found it to be. Throughout the process, just like players from back then, he had only one feeling:
It was incredibly realistic! The level of realism was absolutely captivating.
While simple, algae-like cellular marine organisms were perhaps within acceptable computational limits, once life moved onto land, there was an explosion of diversity. The miracles and origins of life contained within it were beyond the comprehension of any being. He knew that normally, no matter how vast the data, if a simulation was virtual, the computations would lack realism, and the resulting species would be false. Yet, in this game, it was as if there were no inconsistencies; it was just like reality.
Kalz slowly grew horrified. At this point, he was beginning to sense something extremely terrifying. This mysterious game absolutely could not have been created by the weak tenth-tier entities of the Abyssal Blue Divine Realm or even the Fallen Civilization.
"At the very least, it must be a tenth-tier being... a tenth-tier ultimate 'Dao-ending' existence... Could it be that some entity stole this from a tenth-tier ancient ruin and then lost it here?"
His face flushed as he controlled the tiny creature, his breathing growing rapid. "This, even the breathing is so real! As soon as I get nervous... I can already feel that with my intense breathing, I'm rapidly evolving, quickly adapting to the fast breathing rhythm... Larger lung tissues and organs are appearing!"
"Survival of the fittest."
He lay on the ground and started doing push-ups. "The environment dictates the species that emerge... I just need to use evolution to apply various forces... For example, if I vigorously use my forearms, I'll adapt, and creatures with powerful arm strength will appear..."
Sure enough, he found his muscles rapidly evolving, showing a trend toward becoming a muscular, strength-based life form.
Endless! Infinite possibilities!
"The long eons of life, measured in hundreds of millions of years, can actually be... rapidly simulated here."
The greater horror became increasingly clear to him. What did it mean when a powerful bloodline was no longer as rare as in the Abyssal Blue Divine Realm, and one could evolve, simulate, and create miracles of life oneself? It meant too much. Beyond anything else, at the very least, he could simulate countless miracles of life within this courtyard.
"Even a tenth-tier ultimate 'Dao-ending' existence probably couldn't achieve this easily... Perhaps it's even the most powerful kind of tenth-tier being..." He curled up further, gazing at the mysterious entity sipping tea.
The being continued to murmur softly, delicately sipping tea, overlooking the entire dimensional courtyard. Before her, the mountains, rivers, and tiny creatures in the courtyard seemed like a sandbox for her casual simulations, as if the entire universe was held within her grasp.
She lowered her head, took a sip of tea, and, sitting before the courtyard gate, spoke softly, "I oversee a part of the entire universe, having merged with one of its 'Daos'... but it is merely fulfilling a portion of my authority. Life, of course, is paramount, but after countless cycles of creation and destruction, I wonder if any surprises will emerge..."
Kalz, still in the midst of his evolution, became completely unsettled. A setting! It must be background lore! Because the words were too exaggerated. But even for a setting, wasn't it a bit too much? He couldn't imagine what kind of magnificent being could set up such a game.
He felt as if he were exploring an ancient ruin, filled with longing and fascination, brimming with infinite possibilities. At that moment, the long-lost sense of anticipation and novelty, replacing his feelings of despair and fall, surged anew within him.
"Even after merging with the Dao, transcending life and death, taking a part of the 'Dao One,' overseeing the law of life, and becoming the proxy ruler of the entire cosmos, looking down upon billions of gods, it is ultimately..." At this point, the mysterious being, sitting on the bench, paused, her voice filled with regret, "...not of one's own will."
The voice carried a profound sense of regret, as if it had traversed eternal ages. The being flicked a finger, then lightly touched the ground, and a small blade of grass instantly evolved into a shrub. The shrub then rapidly grew, transforming into a large tree. This tree, lush and green, appeared as if its biological evolution had condensed in an instant, transcending billions of years, hailing from ancient times.
The being gently plucked a fruit from the tree and placed it into her mouth with an air of immense leisure and serenity. "Sweet in taste," she remarked, "life condensed into fruit over eons, it's quite delicious."
Witnessing this scene, Kalz was utterly stunned. An incredible thought sprang to his mind. Could it be that this wasn't a game at all, but reality... and the entity before him was a living, breathing, supreme cosmic being? The moment this thought arose, it began to take root and spread wildly as he gazed at the mysterious being seated in the courtyard chair, growing almost uncontrollable.
