The sound of waves lapped against the ship. This was a massive, ancient fishing vessel made of piled earth, resembling a colossal whale-like island carrying a vast, extraordinary world on its back.
In the Sea of Chaos, there was no distinction between day and night. Everything was a hazy gray, with endless mists undulating, creating a sense of confusion, as if shadows and midnight were intertwined.
“Our great Lord of the Multiverse, Cutter of Time and Space, Heedless Outsider, His Highness Miklier, lead us to conquer the Multiverse!”
In the mist, a Saint spoke in a low voice on the deck. Around him stood the Tenth-Order Offspring, arrayed in ranks.
They were also Saints, but Saints without a Seat of the Grand Dao.
Their expressions were a mixture of complexity and excitement. They knew that the great being from their own universe had achieved significant success in that parallel universe, having subdued a civilization called “Burning Calamity.” They had even established a harbor base and were preparing to welcome and bring them over.
Waves lapped. The Saint delivered a speech to the Tenth-Order Offspring:
“Pursue truth, crave blood! The remnants of the old universe will eventually rot to dust. We shall transform into shining stars, ignite that universe in our ascension, and become new Grand Dao Saints!”
While the speech was being given, the other Saints stood on the misty deck, fishing.
This was the deep Sea of Chaos, a place even Saints rarely had the opportunity to visit. Only during such long journeys across parallel universes did they have the chance to access the deep sea and fish.
Waves lapped. The Saints chatted idly.
“In the depths of this Sea of Chaos, there are countless treasures, things beyond imagination. Below, it’s filled with decaying ironware, sculptures, weapons... remnants of ancient Multiverse-crossing vessels, ruins of old world civilizations, so much, so much.”
“By the way, how is the current control?” A Saint asked.
“It’s fine, this sea area is very calm. We should be able to navigate safely.” Another Saint smiled, “After all, we’re not just fishing with our rods; we’re also using their buoyancy to sense the direction of the chaotic currents.”
While a spacetime vessel crossing the multiverse was primarily built by Dimensional Saints, it also required countless ordinary Saints to assist in its construction; it was a colossal undertaking.
A world-crossing vessel was in fact a pseudo-Dao universe. It needed countless rules to be set up by Saints, to self-circulate into a small universe, forming ecological cosmic rules; only then could it exist stably and cross the Sea of Chaos.
However, crossing the Sea of Chaos wasn't just about having a ship! It not only required sufficient resource and power reserves, but most crucially, it depended on the currents. Human effort struggled against the heavens, and even Saints were no exception.
No matter how powerful a Saint was, if they didn't constantly monitor the currents, drifting with them to conserve power, and instead moved against them, they would eventually exhaust their power and sink into the Sea of Chaos.
To cross the Sea of Chaos, fortune and opportunity were indispensable. If they encountered a chaotic tsunami, with hundreds of meters of towering waves, even the most powerful Dimensional Saints would suffer bitter defeat.
“There should be no problem,” a Saint chuckled, “especially since we only need to travel two-thirds of the journey; His Majesty will send a ship to meet us at the other end... This way, our risk is significantly reduced.” Having an escort versus not having one was completely different.
Furthermore, if it were a normal stealth crossing, upon approaching the other universe's coast, they would inevitably be ambushed, leading to a major battle, which would be very disadvantageous fighting on enemy territory.
“This is our opportunity. To think His Majesty could establish a base in another universe! We only need to descend, and we, too, can become Saints of that multiverse.”
“That’s certainly true for us, but these Tenth-Order Offspring...” some Saints smiled, “their emotions must be a mix of excitement and complexity, wouldn’t you say?”
“They have no choice in the matter.” A Saint said coldly, “His Majesty’s action this time is massive, bringing so many beings across consumes an immense amount of resources! We’ve exhausted all our resources just to build this great ship...
Yet even so, we cannot take them back. Once we reach our destination, we can only abandon them in the Sea of Chaos and return ourselves. In fact, without the escort, even we wouldn’t be able to go back!”
To cross the multiverse, one's true body would travel by ship, approach, pierce the other universe's cosmic barrier, deploy a clone within, and then return by ship to their own universe.
But while these Saints could return after deploying their clones, what about the thousands of incomplete Tenth-Order Saints? There simply wasn't enough power to bring them back.
The consequence, naturally, was clear: once their clones entered this multiverse, their true bodies would sink in place, perishing in the Sea of Chaos. This had been planned long ago.
“Hmph, they should be content!” A Saint said, “Their true bodies dying is just that—death. Anyway, they’ve lost their chance here. But coming to this universe to cultivate anew, and by virtue of being the offspring of former Saints, their chances of attaining the Dao and becoming true Saints are extremely high!”
“It’s do or die for them.” The Saints merely exchanged glances, utterly indifferent. Even among these Saint offspring were their own beloved descendants, yet the same fate awaited them.
A cold voice stated:
“This is an opportunity. Do not think that merely by being born as descendants of Saints, inherently divine and privileged, they can lose their courage and fighting spirit! We ourselves fought our way up, and they must do the same. If they lack such ferocity and drive, then their deaths are simply their deaths – rotten wood cannot be carved!” Another Saint added, equally cold.
Waves lapped. As they spoke, tides surged in the distance, and through the grey mist, a smaller cosmic vessel, less than a tenth of their ship’s size, emerged and crossed towards them.
“The escort has arrived!” A Saint’s eyes lit up.
The two ships quickly made contact. Little TV Zhang Tong and the game avatars of Autumn Mountain Speed and others soon emerged.
Autumn Mountain Speed chuckled, looking at the vast ship with awe, then respectfully cupped his hands and said, “Esteemed Saints, we have come by order to provide escort.”
“You must be His Majesty’s faction then.” The Saints saw that the newcomers were merely Ninth-Order Dao Attainers, but knowing they were trusted subordinates of this universe, with a status no weaker than their own as Saintly subjects, they dared not be negligent. They smiled and asked, “Are you the... game avatars His Majesty spoke of?”
“Precisely.” Autumn Mountain Speed rippled, split apart, then reformed.
“Our true bodies are currently within the Dao Field; those who venture out are merely game avatars, unafraid of death... It will be the same when you descend to our universe for cultivation!”
The Saints’ eyes gleamed; they exchanged glances, somewhat astonished by the Heaven-defying nature of this lineage.
“Gentlemen, let’s cut the small talk and get down to business.” Autumn Mountain Speed was decisive and efficient.
“Very well then... All beings on our ship should each send a clone over to their vessel, and they will smuggle us across.” A Saint began to give instructions.
These Saints themselves, as well as the Tenth-Order Offspring, swiftly severed a soul-flesh clone limb, sending it to the other ship.
This part of the body had no true self-soul imprint, but once it reached the other universe, it would immediately generate its own soul imprint, becoming a genuine parallel universe self.
Soon, they all detached parts of their bodies and moved onto the other ship.
“In that case, let us part ways.” These Saints chuckled, “We will maneuver the cosmic vessel and begin our return to our own universe... As for you all...”
The Saints looked at the thousands of Tenth-Order Offspring. “Leaving you on the Sea of Chaos would be pitiful... Your true bodies should also go onto the other ship. Live for as long as you can.”
The Tenth-Order Offspring turned pale. This merely delayed their demise; if their true bodies were to genuinely reach the other universe, they would inevitably be rejected by that parallel universe, unable to enter, and would still perish on the Sea of Chaos.
Soon, these Tenth-Order Offspring, not daring to resist, quickly moved onto the other ship.
Splash. With the exchange complete, the two ships quickly turned around and moved in opposite directions.
“Esteemed Saints, please come to the deck and rest. We have prepared some specialties and pastries from our universe for you all.” Autumn Mountain Speed chuckled politely as he looked at the thousands of Tenth-Order Offspring.
He was secretly astonished, however. As expected of a Dimensional Saint’s imperial dynasty; it not only commanded a group of ordinary Saints, but even thousands of Tenth-Order Offspring.
All these thousands were pseudo-Tenth Order, but they were still Tenth Order! These were the strongest overlords below the Saint level, each capable of crushing the titans of the Abyss Blue Divine Domain. Yet now they were all being abandoned. Even he was amazed by such a grand gesture!
“What Saints are we? We’re merely pseudo-Tenth Order with empty realms.” A Tenth-Order Offspring said, pale-faced, shaking his head, “We’ve been abandoned.”
Autumn Mountain Speed looked at them, feeling pity, but knowing he couldn’t change their fate. To be born into a Saint’s family was unimaginably fortunate, yet also unfortunate.
But they dared not resist, nor did they entertain thoughts of a desperate, do-or-die struggle. This was because even though their true bodies would perish, their parallel universe bodies, once entering this new universe, could cultivate anew and potentially attain the Dao to become true Saints.
“This is a situation where death brings life.” Autumn Mountain Speed smiled gently, “Everyone, you are descendants of Saints, but constrained by your elders. Despite your immense talent, you couldn’t attain the Dao in your own universe. Now that you’ve arrived here, you have a new opportunity! You were already pseudo-Tenth Order; this time, you have the chance to become true Tenth Order. With your talents and Dao accumulation, how could you not cultivate anew and attain the Dao?”
The pale-faced Tenth-Order Saints’ expressions softened slightly. Only powerful Grand Dao Dimensional Saints could cultivate multiverses. Now, even these incomplete pseudo-Saints had this opportunity, which was indeed a monumental stroke of luck.
“Heh heh, if you all succeed, our faction will add thousands of Saints to this universe!” Autumn Mountain Speed chuckled, “This is an unprecedented transformation for a universe! Consider that in a given universe, contemporary Saints usually number only about a thousand, scattered outside the chaotic heavens, yet we will suddenly have thousands!”
The Tenth-Order Offspring nodded; it was indeed true. In any given cosmic era, the number of Saints who could simultaneously break through and attain the Dao within a vast universe was typically only a sparse thousand or so, yet they had brought thousands. The sheer numbers were overwhelming.
“Yes, yes,” Zhang Tong said with a serious expression, “You are Saints, essentially cultivating anew. You Tenth-Order Offspring have an immense advantage! You can bring forth a terrifying number of thousands of Saints in a single cosmic era here!”
The Tenth-Order Offspring immediately relaxed. Autumn Mountain Speed was clearly adept at social graces; a few soothing words and an attempt to build rapport quickly put everyone at ease, and they began their return journey through the multiverse.
The great ship began its crossing back, returning to its port. They had traveled for a distance, but suddenly...
“Mist?” The Saints on deck paused in surprise.
“This fog is too sudden. Why would it appear so abruptly? Could it be a change in the chaotic currents, a precursor to a sea storm?” Elder Huaya frowned.
Elder Huaya, the Black-Clothed Saint, and others were also there to provide escort, but they too were game quantum avatars, their true bodies not present.
“If it’s the currents, then it’s bad. The ship might capsize.” The Black-Clothed Saint frowned. The chaotic sea’s currents surged violently, its undertows terrifying.
Suddenly, the seawater around the ship rapidly rippled. Like boiling water, bubbles rose, and a colossal shadow seemed to be beneath the ship, approaching them with a chilling malice.
A hollow, mournful sound, like an ancient xun instrument, pierced through the ship. It seemed to be the hum of some ancient colossal beast, with a long lingering resonance that swept through the tides.
All beings on the entire cosmic vessel fell silent, their minds blank.
“What is this???” The vibrations intensified within the enveloping mist. The sound continued to rise, the air vibrated, the sea vibrated, and the shadow beneath their feet grew ever larger.
“What is that?!” “There’s something in the misty Sea of Chaos!” “Impossible! This is absolutely impossible! There cannot be living creatures in the Sea of Chaos; no living thing can survive in it!”
The great Saints, and pseudo-Tenth Order Saints, who normally overlooked entire universes, involuntarily swallowed. Waves of fear rippled through their hearts; their hearts pounded fiercely, and their blood boiled.
“We don’t want to die!” “No, let me go to that universe! My true body and clone soul are both here; if I die, I’m truly dead!”
Cries of fear permeated the deck. But something more terrifying occurred: the chaotic sea began to surge with waves, actually crashing onto the deck. Large quantities of chaotic seawater, like heavy hailstones, fell upon all the Saints.
“Quick, escape!” The chaotic seawater corroded all the Saints, eroding their Daos.
They ran and scrambled across the extraordinary world on the deck, dodging the seawater.
“Hubby, what’s happening?” Zhang Tong asked, trembling with fear. “Weren’t we just here to pick people up?”
“If even these Saints don’t know, how could we?” Autumn Mountain Speed also ran wildly on the deck. “How can there be living things in the chaotic sea? No living creature can survive there; only universes can exist in the Sea of Chaos! Whatever it is, fortunately, we’re just game avatars here to escort, so if we die, we die.”
Splash. Within the grey mist, the massive ship began to sway. The colossal shadow beneath the water expanded further, as if engulfing the entire oceanic world below the ship.
The shadow was overwhelming, and they seemed to discern the outlines of a colossal beast.
“It’s an abdomen! The abdomen of some kind of giant beast!” “It looks like the segmented, disc-shaped abdomen of some insectoid creature.” “Why is it exposing its abdomen to us?”
Countless people looked towards the seabed, trembling with fear.
A deep, resonant sound. The colossal beast from the seabed emitted another resonating, inexplicable hum, a vast sound that seemed capable of shattering one’s heart.
In the mist, the beast with the exposed abdomen finally made its move. Massive, sharp, scythe-like legs suddenly pierced the vast sea surface, embracing the entire great ship and clamping onto it with its whole body.
Thud! It violently rolled over, churning up towering waves hundreds of meters high, and incredibly, pressed the ship down towards the seabed.
Like a beetle clutching its prey, it rode beneath the ship, forcing the colossal cosmic vessel to drown in the water, pushing it deep into the Sea of Chaos.
And this unnamable, colossal beetle-beast of the chaotic deep sea, like holding a piece of driftwood, floated with the ship pressed beneath it.
