Long Dayu's face still showed some dissatisfaction upon hearing the affirmative reply, but inwardly he was incredibly excited, finally able to deal with this scoundrel!
He then feigned disdain, even a hint of indifference, and re-arranged the meeting place with Chu Feng. This time, Chu Feng readily agreed, promising not to be late.
As he ended the call and put away his communicator, Chu Feng noticed Old Gu staring at him with a peculiar expression.
"'You're going to trick that bizarre dragon to its death,' Old Gu drawled."
Now, Chu Feng had almost achieved the Dual Eternal Venerable Dao Fruit, possessing boundless strength and the absolute means to contend with a Great Power-level expert. If Chu Feng were to fulfill the appointment now, that bizarre dragon, appearing gleefully, would find itself unable to cry in the end.
Chu Feng retorted, "'You can't put it that way. He's clearly trying to trick me; that dragon is truly black-hearted. I'm merely going to act in self-defense.'"
"'I've never heard of someone preparing in advance, eagerly rushing, and actively showing up at someone's door to act in self-defense,' Old Gu scoffed."
Then, he suddenly grew serious. 'You need to be a little careful; don't capsize. If that bizarre dragon dares to do this, it likely has a reliable method to deal with you.'"
Upon hearing this, Chu Feng instantly became serious. He realized he might have been negligent and overly careless. The bizarre dragon was no simple adversary; since it dared to hunt him, its methods would surely be ruthless.
"'You must understand, you are only a quasi-Eternal Venerable; you haven't truly stepped into that realm yet. Even battling one Great Power could create a considerable commotion; silent elimination is impossible. Creatures at that level are far more powerful than you can imagine! What if there are two, three, or even four? Could you withstand such powerful beings attacking in concert?'"
Old Gu's words startled Chu Feng. The bizarre dragon might genuinely be able to summon four Great Powers. If Long Dayu were to turn the tables and deal with him, it would be disastrous. Most critically, Chu Feng considered that if he engaged in a fierce battle with the Great Powers Long Dayu brought, the immense commotion and shocking battle would undoubtedly attract the Yuan Clan's attention and vigilance. In that scenario, he might not be able to clear out the lairs of the three Great Powers he had targeted.
"'So, should I eliminate the Yuan Clan first, one by one, discreetly, and then go collect Long Dayu's exotic soil?' Chu Feng mused, stroking his chin."
If so, he would be standing Long Dayu up again. He figured the bizarre dragon would be furious, practically seething with resentment. However, Chu Feng was certain that even if he stood Long Dayu up again, the bizarre dragon would still agree to meet the next time they arranged it. This was all because the bizarre dragon's resentment towards him was only deepening further.
"'Actually, it's not that much trouble. It's fine to stand that bizarre dragon up one more time. Let's keep him on edge. Once I emerge from seclusion, we can go together, and any problem can be solved,' Old Gu stated, brimming with confidence." He intended to advance into the Great Power realm and wanted Chu Feng to act as his protector for a bit longer.
"'It's better to be safe than sorry. What if that bizarre dragon truly has immense influence and extraordinary means, inviting four or even five Great Powers at once? While I haven't genuinely achieved the Dual Eternal Venerable Dao Fruit, I might truly suffer an unexpected setback.'"
Chu Feng was now very calm. He didn't become complacent after his recent advancement. He reflected seriously and earnestly, deciding to accompany Old Gu. Chu Feng thought to himself, *Bizarre dragon, I'm sorry. Go ahead and stomp your feet. Whether you're fuming with rage or spitting blood, it's none of my concern for now!*
And so, the bizarre dragon was stood up once more!
At that moment, the bizarre dragon was highly excited, calling upon his old friends. Indeed, as Old Gu and Chu Feng had anticipated, the worst-case scenario was unfolding. The bizarre dragon had called upon all the old acquaintances he knew from his previous life. He wasn't sure how many would come, but he expected at least three or four.
"'You scoundrel, this time you won't escape even if you grow wings! I refuse to believe I can't deal with you. Don't forget who Dragon Lord I am—I always get my revenge and never take a loss. You're dead!'" He had no idea that he would once again come up empty-handed and that 'Brother De' would break the appointment. If he had known, he would surely have spat out a mouthful of old blood right then.
"'Still going?!'"
"'This time, you're not going to be toyed with again, are you?'"
"'Big Dragon, let it go. Listen to me, don't provoke that guy anymore. I always feel uneasy about him; he's not someone to be trifled with.'"
Three individuals, all his closest friends, responded to Long Dayu immediately. They had all set out with him for the first attempted meeting. As a result, they had waited for most of the night and hadn't seen a single hair of him.
"'Don't worry, he'll definitely come this time. Besides, there won't be any problems. I've invited a few more people, and if they arrive too, I even think we could provoke the Old Ultimate, or even conquer a few famous mountains!'" Long Dayu swore confidently, reassuring them. He then ended the communication and began to prepare diligently.
Time passed, and another night fell. Long Dayu arrived punctually for the appointment. The bright moon hung high, its radiant light casting a soft glow over the picturesque mountainside, making the entire green mountain hazy, as if covered in a sacred silver sheen. Long Dayu had set up a lounge chair and was quite content. Having arrived early, he lay back, humming a tune, eagerly awaiting Chu Feng's arrival.
Shortly after, five shadowy figures appeared, flickered, and vanished, each discreetly acknowledging him. Five Great Powers! If word of this got out, it would undoubtedly cause a massive stir. A mere barren mountain had, overnight, drawn the collective presence of five Great Powers—this was significant! One could only imagine the extent of the bizarre dragon's connections.
"'Gentlemen, I, your brother, will surely compensate you. I guarantee on my honor that he possesses an immense secret; otherwise, he couldn't have risen so quickly to become an Eternal King.'" The bizarre dragon was willing to spare no expense to call upon his old friends, not solely to vent his anger. He also sought a significant gain, as his intuition told him there was something peculiar about Chu Feng, harboring a great secret.
The bright moon shone overhead, pine trees rustled, and clear springs flowed over rocks—the scenery was picturesque. Long Dayu was in high spirits, patiently waiting for Chu Feng to walk into his trap.
And then...
There was no 'then'!
He waited until dawn. His old friends, speechless and silent, slipped away one by one. In the end, 'Brother De' never appeared!
"'Argh...'" Long Dayu howled, utterly enraged. He felt as if he were about to vomit blood. *Damn it,* he thought, *how can someone be so shameless, standing me up again!* He couldn't quite grasp it. What kind of sick humor did that damned 'Brother De' possess? Was he truly just toying with him for no apparent reason?
Long Dayu was going mad. If he ever saw Chu Feng, he would absolutely beat him to death! What shamed him most was how anyone could fall into the same trap twice. Unfortunately, he was precisely such a person, having been tricked two nights in a row into the desolate wilderness to endure the dew and mountain winds. That damned 'Brother De'! Was this how a person behaved? What filled him with the most sorrow and indignation was that while his old friends had left in silence without a word, their unspoken departure had a far more severe impact. What must they think of him now?
"'Brother De is no good! Damn it, Dragon Lord is going mad!' Long Dayu felt like he was about to cough up blood, his vision blurring. He desperately wanted to kill someone."
Just then, his communicator rang. Upon seeing the caller ID, his eyes immediately turned bloodshot, and he trembled with rage, wishing he could crush the communicator. Ultimately, however, he forced himself to answer. He wanted to hear what more Cao De could possibly say; it was simply too outrageous!
Yet, one sentence from Chu Feng nearly sent him into a frenzy, his sanity on the verge of shattering.
"'Dayu, it's your Big Brother De!'"
*Do you need to introduce yourself? I know it's you!* Long Dayu wanted to roar. *And who are you 'Big Brother' to? You stood me up again, and you still dare to call yourself 'brother' right off the bat? I've put up with you for too long; I'll definitely beat you to death!*
However, Chu Feng didn't give the bizarre dragon a chance to explode. He quickly explained, spitting as he spoke, his tongue untied, speaking with remarkable fluency.
"'A Great Power chased me all night; I almost died! Look, I'm covered in blood, full of injuries, and many of my bones are broken. It was truly awful! I swear I'll get my revenge!'"
The bizarre dragon was dumbfounded. On the other end of the screen, the damned and disgraceful 'Brother De' was indeed covered in blood, slumped weakly on the ground, panting heavily, his tongue almost hanging out from exhaustion. Long Dayu felt a surge of secret satisfaction, his heart greatly relieved. If he didn't have to maintain appearances, he would have shouted, 'Heaven finally has eyes!'"
"'Dayu, I need to go recover from my injuries now. Tonight, I swear I'll crawl there even if I have to. If I fail to make the appointment again due to unforeseen circumstances, may I be struck by five bolts of lightning, suffer decay, strangeness, and ill omens, entangled for the rest of my life.'"
Chu Feng swore a vicious oath, leaving the bizarre dragon dumbfounded. He secretly mused that this fellow was truly ruthless to swear such an oath. Did this mean he wouldn't break the appointment this time?
"'Tonight, same old place, don't leave without me. If I don't show up, may my Dao foundation crumble and my soul light turn to ashes. Wait for me!'" With that, Chu Feng ended the call.
Long Dayu was speechless. Though he had been fuming, he now found himself lost in thought, torn over whether to believe him again. If he did believe, could he still ask his old friends for help? He was filled with sorrow and indignation. Approaching them three times in a row would irritate even close brothers. This made the bizarre dragon want to beat Chu Feng to death even more. That scoundrel had repeatedly stood him up, costing him too many favors, and he couldn't even explain it to his old friends anymore. How could he possibly ask them again now?
Finally, he gritted his teeth and contacted his old friends once more. Come what may, he refused to miss the chance to deal with Chu Feng; if he couldn't string Chu Feng up, he felt there would be no justice! He swore he *must* catch that detestable and hateful Ji Dade!
However, some of his old friends no longer even wished to speak with him. The bizarre dragon's old face flushed crimson as he offered every possible explanation. In the end, only three of his old friends agreed to come out again and accompany him.
"'Damn you, Brother De! Even by not showing up, you've made me take the blame again. All my brothers think I've gone insane! But this is all *your* fault; it's because you didn't appear!'" The bizarre dragon was furious and despondent, seething with unvented rage. He truly felt he was losing his mind. Regardless of the reason, his old friends now clearly had certain opinions about him. It was solely due to their past camaraderie and his considerable influence that he had managed to persuade them to come out repeatedly.
"'Just wait until tonight! If you still don't show up, I'll put a bounty on your head worldwide. I'll spend my entire fortune to make the underground world seethe, with all its experts dispatched to hunt you down!'" Long Dayu secretly vowed revenge, for after being inexplicably stood up two nights in a row, he was physically and mentally exhausted, on the verge of exploding.
Meanwhile, Chu Feng had returned to a secret realm, where he and Old Gu were observing a towering medicinal tree. Many days prior, Old Gu had buried two portions of Great Power-level exotic soil to hasten the tree's maturation. Today, he placed the final portion into the ground. In fact, even with just two portions of exotic soil, the flower buds on the medicinal tree were nearly ripe and set to blossom within a day or two. Now, he had buried the third portion of exotic soil to further enhance the pollen's quality and accelerate the buds' blooming!
"'Old Gu, are you confident? Are you ready?' Chu Feng asked."
"'Don't worry, I've been waiting for this day for a long time. My foundation, accumulated since prehistoric times, is incredibly solid. If I were to fail, then hardly any other being in this world could achieve the Great Power fruit position!'" Old Gu was brimming with confidence, utterly self-assured.
By noon, the tree's countless flower buds finally began to blossom. This medicinal tree was indeed extraordinary, bearing five distinct types of flowers, each a different color. The five varieties of flowers blossomed almost simultaneously, scattering pollen that drifted down like fine dust, covering Old Gu as if in a thin veil or a five-colored cloud.
Old Gu's evolution began, progressing towards becoming a Great Power!
"'Watch closely! This is the path of a Great Power: mixing the Dao patterns of heaven and earth, embracing the essence of the great world. It's called the Hunyuan Realm!'" Old Gu exclaimed, still finding the presence of mind to explain and instruct Chu Feng on how to proceed on this path.
It must be said, Old Gu had a knack; he was truly formidable. Especially concerning subsequent evolution, his preparations were incredibly thorough, down to every single detail. For instance, the exact amount of pollen to absorb each time, how the body should expand with each breath, and how much evolution should occur were all meticulously calculated in advance. This was far more meticulous than Chu Feng's approach. Old Gu had complete control over the entire process. This was the medicinal tree his elder brother had once used, providing him with a wealth of experience to draw upon, all meticulously deduced. Therefore, he was now very confident and composed.
"'Hunyuan! Mixing the Dao patterns of all heavens, containing the primordial energy of ten thousand realms!' Old Gu roared. Generally speaking, being able to accommodate and capture even a portion of a world's original patterns was quite impressive. Given how desperately he was pushing himself, his ambition was clearly not small. Of course, at the Great Power or Hunyuan Realm level, no one could truly mix the Dao patterns of all heavens or contain the primordial energy of ten thousand realms; that was merely a figurative expression. It simply meant that an individual evolving in this realm should strive with all their might to accommodate and comprehend as much as possible.
"'I want to become stronger! I want to break into the Great Hunyuan domain! I want to become an Eternal Yuan Realm expert, a true Great Power!'" Old Gu roared, starting to go berserk. He absorbed the sky-full of five-colored pollen, evolving wildly, his very flesh and blood seeming to ignite. He was undergoing transformation; he was ascending!
The term 'Great Power' certainly held different meanings in the eyes of people at various cultivation levels. At times, even Celestial Venerables were referred to as Great Powers by junior cultivators. However, as the concept became more widespread and a consensus emerged, people gradually began to refer to those above the Hunyuan level as Great Powers, and Celestial Venerables no longer held that distinction. As for Old Gu, he was very proud and confident. He believed that only evolvers possessing a Great Hunyuan Dao Fruit or higher could truly be considered Great Powers!
Nevertheless, despite Old Gu's immense confidence and thorough preparations, having calculated every possible outcome, he still encountered an unforeseen obstacle during his evolution. The five-colored pollen merged, creating peculiar changes that caused his evolution speed to fluctuate wildly, exceeding his predictions. His body trembled, enduring immense suffering and pressure from the transformation.
Chu Feng's expression immediately changed. Old Gu's evolution was perilous and difficult; a single misstep could lead to disaster. Without a second thought, he stood at a distance, manifesting his own Dao. He continuously visualized, comprehending the true path, resonating with the countless light particles and mysterious substances hidden within the heavens and earth. Sure enough, he succeeded, causing a small, blurry segment of that true path to emerge. However, compared to when he underwent his own evolution, this path appeared far more ethereal, almost imperceptible. Yet, this was already very taxing for him, as he wasn't the one evolving; rather, it was the true path forcibly manifested through his meditation.
Old Gu stabilized! He stared at the ethereal path, integrating it with his own evolution, and comprehended many insights. Then, he let out a low roar, blood splattering from his body, and his skin cracking as he began to sublimate. This process was extremely dangerous and arduous, lasting for over half a day. Only then did Old Gu, having narrowly escaped death, successfully complete his evolution and endure the trial!
"'Brother, thank you so much!' Old Gu rushed over, shaking Chu Feng's shoulder. His gratitude was heartfelt; he had almost failed just now." Even with his elder brother's medicinal tree, receiving the most potent catalyst and absorbing the strongest pollen, he had still narrowly avoided disaster. Had he relied solely on himself, he likely would have endured and entered the Great Power realm alive, but whether he could have become an expert at the Great Hunyuan level would have been uncertain. But now, drawing upon his accumulated foundation since prehistoric times, the invincible medicinal tree left by Li, and the ethereal true path Chu Feng manifested, he had succeeded, crossing a monumental threshold unimaginable to ordinary people! He had directly leaped from the Great Heavenly Venerable level into the Great Hunyuan domain!
How many craved this but failed? He had achieved it today, directly becoming a powerful expert at the Great Hunyuan level! He no longer pursued becoming an Eternal Yuan expert, having resigned himself to the belief that he couldn't achieve it. However, becoming an unparalleled Great Power at the Great Hunyuan level was more than enough. In this world, how many truly possessed an almost perfect Hunyuan Dao Fruit? They could be counted on one's fingers! In Old Gu's opinion, perhaps only Chu Feng could achieve a breakthrough of that magnitude, and with a dual Dao Fruit at that!
"'Let me consolidate my power for a bit, then we'll depart!' Old Gu said, brimming with confidence."
Old Gu's consolidation lasted until the moon was high in the sky. Chu Feng had no issues and waited patiently.
Meanwhile, on a certain mountaintop, Long Dayu was on the verge of madness. *Standing me up again?* he thought, as the cold mountain wind swept over him and he gazed at the desolate moonlight, feeling utterly miserable. The bizarre dragon's sanity was about to shatter! He was anxious, uneasy, even apprehensive. If 'Brother De' didn't show up this time, how could he possibly explain to his old friends? He would have no face left!
"'Come on, just show up already! Dammit, I... I really miss you!'" Long Dayu muttered to himself, occasionally wiping cold sweat. He no longer understood his own state of mind; it felt less like he yearned for revenge and more like he yearned for the main character to appear so he could finally explain himself to his old friends. Otherwise, he would have nowhere to put his face.
In the secret realm, Old Gu finally rose. With red lips and white teeth, he looked more youthful than ever. After his strength surged, he exuded even greater confidence, his eyes gleaming like condensed divine lightning.
"'Should we go eliminate the three old monsters of the Yuan Clan first, and then deal with the bizarre dragon?' Old Gu asked."
"'It's getting late. Let's go meet the bizarre dragon first. Otherwise, I'm afraid he'll go mad. He's been stood up once, then twice, but he can't be stood up a third time,' Chu Feng chuckled." If the bizarre dragon knew that 'Brother De' had, for once, genuinely considered his feelings, one wondered if he would burst into sorrowful tears.
It was already late into the night, and Chu Feng was still nowhere to be seen. At this point, the bizarre dragon's heart turned stone cold. Filled with both sorrow and indignation, he was on the verge of exploding.
Just then, one of his old friends suddenly spoke, saying, 'He's here!'" Upon hearing this, the bizarre dragon instantly snapped to attention, standing on the mountaintop and gazing into the distance. At the edge of the horizon, a young man, ethereal and transcendent beneath the moonlight, like a banished immortal, sauntered forth. His strides were not large, yet he seemed to shrink the distance with each step, rapidly approaching. It was indeed Chu Feng.
Even if burned to ashes, Long Dayu would recognize 'Brother De'. At that moment, he was surprisingly not filled with anger or thoughts of revenge, but instead was nearly in tears. "'You damn... you finally showed up!' he muttered through gritted teeth."
My apologies for the delayed well wishes. May everyone have a joyous, healthy, and reunited Lantern Festival!
