The maid gazed tenderly at Chen Ling, whose eyes were red-rimmed. She didn't deny anything, but instead sighed helplessly: "I only meant to come and see you, but I didn't expect to be recognized..."
Chen Ling had, of course, recognized her. Logically, since the Silver King had decided to execute him and had him nailed to a cross, why would he be so kind as to send someone to bring him food? He had felt suspicious the first time the maid came. But he hadn't thought much of it then, until he later realized that it was the same maid who brought him food every day, and the taste of the food always felt very familiar to him. That taste definitely wasn't something the Silver King's subordinates could produce. Furthermore, the maid before him was far too gentle with him... The Silver King's subordinates would never treat a dying man with such patience and kindness.
"Fourth Senior Brother... when did you arrive?" Chen Ling asked softly.
"The day I first brought you food." Mojiao scooped up the last bit of food and brought it to Chen Ling's lips. "Bai Ye went to Xidao Guzang and told us what happened, so I immediately sent a clone to the church..."
Only then did Chen Ling recall that when the maid first brought him food, she had clearly paused when she saw him nailed to the cross.
"Senior Bai Ye went to Xidao Guzang?" Chen Ling's heart stirred. "Then... what about Master? Has he come too?"
"Master wasn't at Guzang at the time; he seemed to have other matters to attend to," Mojiao paused for a moment. "But he will definitely come."
Receiving this answer, Chen Ling's emotions were somewhat complex, and he simply nodded slowly.
As Chen Ling finished the last mouthful of food, Mojiao picked up the tray.
"Fourth Senior Brother, are you leaving?" Chen Ling asked instinctively.
"Leaving? Your senior brother isn't leaving..."
Mojiao shook his head. He walked slowly past Chen Ling's cross and approached the massive stained-glass window. He gazed into the distance, where, at the end of the dark haze, faint rays of light seemed to be rising, like the dawn after a long night.
"Little Junior Brother, day is breaking..." Mojiao spoke softly, "Your senior brothers are taking you home."
A burning truck roared through the dark streets!
In Wu Duo's pupils, the truck rapidly grew larger. The moment the street full of silver monsters turned their heads, the burning sun rushed halfway down the street, and brilliant flames instantly erupted from the vehicle!
Boom—!!!
A violent explosion rose from the street, fierce flames engulfing the nearest silver monsters, while others nearby were thrown back by the blast, crashing into the empty buildings on either side.
This scene unfolded so suddenly that Wu Duo didn't even have time to react. Lan Yu and the other Usurpers frowned, just about to make a move, when playing cards fluttered down from the sky like snowflakes...
Six of Hearts.
"Six of Hearts?!" Seeing these cards, everyone was aghast! By now, the Usurpers had developed PTSD from playing cards, especially the Six of Hearts. The moment they saw the card, everyone's heart sank, instinctively assuming Chen Ling had escaped again and had an even more terrifying backup plan.
Just then, a figure dashed through the lingering flames, grabbed Wu Duo's wrist, and turned to run frantically down the shattered street!
"What are you waiting for?! Run!!"
"Fang Liangye?!"
Fang Liangye, clad in a heavy coat, ran with Wu Duo through the gaps between the silver monsters. The late-night breeze ruffled his hair, and Fang Liangye's eyes were filled with determination and madness.
"Why are you here?! Do you know..."
"I know," Fang Liangye turned to look at her. "But I don't want to be a coward anymore... This time, I want to be the Six of Hearts."
Wu Duo was stunned.
Rustling sounds came from behind. The silver monsters, thrown into the buildings by the explosion's aftermath, had already gotten up and were pursuing Fang Liangye and Wu Duo at an alarming speed!
Fang Liangye didn't look back; he simply looked into Wu Duo's eyes and smiled slightly: "Do you trust me, Duoduo?"
Wu Duo bit her lip tightly and nodded heavily, "Yes."
"Keep running forward, don't look back... The sky is about to brighten."
Fang Liangye gave Wu Duo a forceful push on her back. She stumbled forward a few steps and met his gaze... She saw eyes filled with a smile and a sense of release, and her heart twisted in pain. But Wu Duo didn't stop. She ran forward with all her might, as Fang Liangye had instructed, tears streaming uncontrollably from her eyes, feeling like cuts in the fierce wind. Wu Duo knew that Fang Liangye wanted to save not only her but also the past self he couldn't forgive. If she stopped now, Fang Liangye wouldn't find redemption, nor would he forgive his past self... Just as he said, he wanted to be the Six of Hearts this one time, not a coward who couldn't protect anyone.
Once the Usurpers realized it was Fang Liangye, they also understood they had been tricked, and their expressions immediately turned grim.
"...A dying struggle," Lan Yu sneered.
The next moment, several enraged Usurpers charged forward simultaneously, along with a few silver monsters, rushing towards the halted Fang Liangye!
Feeling the surging killing intent from all directions, the madness in Fang Liangye's eyes intensified! He directly threw open his heavy coat, revealing a dense array of explosives strapped to his body. His coat hem brushed against the roadside flames, igniting all the fuses!
Seeing this, the Usurpers' faces instantly changed. They abruptly stopped and were about to retreat when Fang Liangye's loud laughter suddenly rang out: "The show... begins!!!"
Boom—!!!
The second explosion's fiery blast engulfed the street, instantly shattering the silver monsters that had rushed near him and consuming the closest Usurpers...
Scattered flesh permeated the air. Wu Duo felt the heat wave from behind her, her eyes bloodshot, and she suppressed the pain in her heart, roaring as she sprinted forward!
Just then, clusters of torches lit up from the gloom ahead. There were so many torches that they formed continuous patches, like a surging wave of fire rolling towards them. Figures in work clothes, shouting loudly, burst out from the gloom at high speed!
"Damn it!!! Let's fight them to the death!!"
"They don't treat us like people, they don't give us a way out!! So come on!! Rather than dying from illness or exhaustion, I'd rather die with you bastards!!"
"Don't forget, this realm belongs to the people of Wuji!! Not you goddamn thieves!!"
"Brothers!! Kill them all!!"
These workers glared ferociously, their hands gripping the torches veined with effort. Some of them were still stained with blood, seemingly having overwhelmed and killed the lower-ranked Usurpers who were monitoring them through sheer numbers. Their bodies radiated an exceptionally fierce and determined killing intent!
If one were to look down from above at this moment, they would see countless torches lining the streets, forming a continuous ribbon of light, pouring into the city from various factory districts. Hundreds of thousands of young figures were risking their lives, launching a massive uprising!
This early release is to request a few days off from everyone. For the past month, I have mostly been working on the go, writing. Today, I just left a hospital in Beijing, and the doctor gave me a severe warning. My pulse is extremely weak, I'm overthinking, my qi and blood are deficient, and I don't even have the energy to speak. Even when sitting and doing nothing, my heart rate consistently stays at 120. The doctor repeatedly and strictly warned me that I must rest.
Since I started writing in 2020, in four years, I've only missed one day of updates, which was on the day I fractured my leg. All other times, I've maintained a continuous serialization. But this time, I want to take a leave to recuperate. Additionally, in a couple of days, I have to go to Hainan for Tomato's creator conference, so I really can't keep updating. The leave won't be long, a minimum of four or five days, a maximum of seven days. At least I need to get out of this near-death state and regain some strength.
The plot of the third volume is one that I personally really like and am very much looking forward to. I hope to write its most exciting parts when I am in the best mental state, and I hope for your understanding.
