Booming—booming—
The booming sound echoed throughout the Boundless Domain, as members of the Twilight Society, who were scattered and fleeing in various directions, simultaneously looked up towards the distance.
Seven colossal Calamities, emanating terrifying auras, had violently torn through the domain's perimeter wall. Rolling dust obscured the sky and sun, and from any corner of the Boundless Domain, one could see the monstrous giant shadows slowly emerging from the dense smoke.
"No..."
"What on earth is that???"
The members of the Twilight Society stared wide-eyed, thinking that it was already difficult enough to evade the four Arbiters; why was there now a Calamity invasion?
But upon closer thought, they didn't panic. After all, this was the Boundless Domain, the territory of the Flame Usurpers. Even if a Calamity invasion occurred, they would be the ones with the biggest headache.
Indeed, their conjecture proved correct.
The moment the domain's edge was breached by the Calamities, the expressions of the four Arbiters and the Flame Usurpers changed. They stared in shock at the giant shadows in the dense smoke, their hearts sinking.
The Butcher and the Eighth-Tier Book Deity directly abandoned their pursuit of the Twilight Society members, rushing instead towards the direction of the Calamity invasion.
The wind whistled past their ears. The closer they got to the swirling dust, the more rapidly the surrounding temperature dropped, as if a cold current from the depths of the Forbidden Sea had seeped into their very bones.
"Calamity invasion... why now of all times?" the Book Deity murmured to himself.
"Something is strange," the Butcher said gravely. "A normal Calamity invasion should originate from a specific Calamity territory, with all Calamities belonging to the same major type... but the aura of these Calamities before us seems to be different."
"Are you saying..."
A biting cold current, like a dragon's breath, surged from the dust. The shattered high walls and the vast Boundless Domain were all covered in a mirror-like layer of frost.
Seven enormous shadows slowly emerged from the cold surge and dust. A mysterious hooded figure stood atop the skull of the leading Skeletal Gray Wolf; the mirror-like frost coating the ground emanated from his body.
A faint white mist drifted from the corners of his mouth, which bore inscribed runes. A pair of sharp, mirrored white eyes locked onto the Butcher and the Book Deity.
Not seven Calamities... but eight?
The Butcher's brows furrowed deeply. He scrutinized the "human" standing on the Skeletal Gray Wolf's head. From his physique and appearance, the figure was undoubtedly human, yet he exuded no human aura at all. Instead, he radiated an unknown Calamity presence – a mysterious Calamity not under the dominion of any "World Ender."
"No... could it be the Fusion Faction?" the Book Deity said, as if realizing something. "But isn't the Fusion Faction always discreet and mysterious? Why would they attack the domain at this moment?"
"Could it be..."
The Butcher had a bad feeling.
"Where is Chen Ling?" Zhao Yi's cold voice rang out amidst the frost and snow.
The hearts of both the Butcher and the Book Deity sank simultaneously. Sure enough, they were here for Chen Ling again.
"Is the Fusion Faction also interfering in the affairs of the Boundless Domain?" The Butcher gripped his boning knife, a chilling gleam flickering in his eyes.
"Chen Ling's matter is the Fusion Faction's matter. If you want to kill Chen Ling, you are provoking the entire Fusion Faction." Zhao Yi sneered, then raised a finger and pointed at the domain beneath their feet, "I don't care about your Boundless Domain or your Flame Usurpers... Why don't you ask this domain beneath your feet how many Calamity invasions it can withstand?"
The Butcher and the Book Deity's expressions turned incredibly grim.
"Holy Son, I smell the aura of a 'World Ender'," the Skeletal Gray Wolf's voice resonated in Zhao Yi's ear.
Zhao Yi didn't bother wasting time with the two Arbiters. He waved his hand gently, "Attack!"
The next moment, the six Calamities behind him surged forward simultaneously. The towering, mountain-like monsters immediately surrounded the Butcher and the Book Deity.
Meanwhile, Zhao Yi bent down and gripped the Skeletal Gray Wolf's skull. The latter abruptly turned, and while the two Arbiters were under attack, it swiftly dashed into the depths of the Boundless Domain, like a streak of white lightning!
Once they were completely away from the battlefield, Zhao Yi looked back, wiping sweat from his forehead with a hint of lingering fear: "Damn it... two Eighth-Tiers? Nobody mentioned that the Boundless Domain had such powerful individuals before we came!"
"Holy Son, there are more than just two such powerhouses in the Boundless Domain," the Gray Wolf sniffed. "There are eight Eighth-Tiers here... no... it seems like nine? The scent of one is almost undetectable now."
Zhao Yi looked back at the six Calamities battling the two Arbiters, and asked with some concern, "Can those few of them defeat those two Eighth-Tiers?"
"They can't win," the Gray Wolf answered decisively. "But they should be able to stall them for a while..."
"How long is 'a while'?"
"Five or six minutes? In any case, we need to find Chen Ling as soon as possible."
Zhao Yi sighed deeply, a trace of worry on his face.
The Fusion Faction entrusting him with the mission to rescue Chen Ling and allowing him to bring these seven masters proved their high regard for him. If all these individuals were to fall in the Boundless Domain, it would be a significant loss for the Fusion Faction, and Zhao Yi would not easily forgive himself.
"No need to sigh, Holy Son," the Skeletal Gray Wolf paused. "At least, your dramatic pronouncements just now certainly scared them quite a bit."
Zhao Yi: ...
"The Fusion Faction???"
The Silver King, standing below the stage, could no longer contain himself. He looked at the Red King with eyes that wished to devour him whole. "Not just the Flame Usurpers, the Tianshu Domain... you even accounted for the Fusion Faction?"
The Silver King was frustrated to the point of madness. He had believed his strategy was flawless and that he had numerous pieces, yet every time he made a move, the Red King always managed a counter-attack from an unexpected angle.
Mobilizing Lord Tianshu, instigating Lou Yu's defection, and attracting the Enforcers had already started to break the Silver King's defenses. The perfectly timed appearance of the Fusion Faction delivered a heavy blow to his arrogant confidence.
Could the Red King truly have planned everything so meticulously?
"That's why your vision is too narrow... You only see what you want to see, ignoring the other players hidden in the shadows." The Red King raised an eyebrow, leisurely leaning back in his chair, his gaze drifting towards a certain point in the void, "Whether it's you or the Human Domain, the Fusion Faction's low profile has made all of you subconsciously overlook its existence... but in reality, its power far exceeds all of your imaginations."
"How much power can an academic faction that studies humans and Calamities, and was cast out by the Nine Lords, possibly have?" the Silver King scoffed. "At least, there are no demigods among them."
The Red King smiled, noncommittally.
His eyes remained fixed on the void, his gaze seemingly piercing through space and time, observing Zhao Yi on the Skeletal Gray Wolf's back. He appeared to be deep in thought.
"The Fusion Faction, huh..." the Red King murmured to himself, "Perhaps, it might indeed be more suitable."
