For the next few days, Chen Ling consistently sat in front of the radio, listening to news from the Jade Realm.
After the brutal fighting of the first day, the Spirit Void Realm, currently the only one not targeted by the Calamity Domain, seemed to have dispatched some combat forces to provide support. In the following days, the battlefields stabilized, and the Delusion Disaster still did not appear, allowing the Jade Realm to finally catch its breath.
In the reports over these past few days, "General Jian" had an increasingly strong presence. This mysterious expert, whose origin was unknown, had completely made a name for himself on the battlefield with his extraordinary achievements. Both the people of the Esoteric Sect and the citizens of the Jade Realm held him in immense reverence.
Although Sun Bumian's presence was also noted, he seemed to dislike fighting and drawing attention, so news about him was scarce. As for Jiang Xiaohua, there was no trace of him; Chen Ling even suspected he wasn't in the Jade Realm at all.
During this period, Chen Ling also entered the era archive, but nothing significant occurred.
Yang Xiao went alone to rescue his fiancée, Su Zhiwei was still with Yao Qing, Lu Xun had probably only recently arrived in America, and Chu Changqing, who was captured and taken to the Grey Realm, remained missing. Since Chen Ling couldn't alter his current calamity appearance, he could only find a mask and wander around the nearby cities. However, aside from vast nuclear ruins, he found virtually nothing.
Compared to these matters, Chen Ling's audience expectation value fluctuated, now reaching the critical 20-point threshold.
Life in the Ghost Mocking Abyss was incredibly dull. If not for the brief increase in expectation from exploring the era archive, Chen Ling would likely be vying for the stage with his audience again. However, since there was an interval between era archive openings, after one exploration, he would face another stretch of monotonous life.
Chen Ling knew he couldn't continue like this; he had to find something to do.
Chen Ling walked straight out of the underground palace.
Wu Yi remained in his spherical state. For days, there had been no other changes except that the sphere's color deepened, gradually approaching black. However, Chen Ling could vaguely sense that Wu Yi's aura within the sphere had grown to an alarming degree, and it wouldn't be long before he emerged.
"Call Xie Yi over for me."
Chen Ling said to the two small centipedes waiting at the entrance.
The two small centipedes immediately understood. One quickly turned and departed, while the other remained respectfully in place, waiting in case the Great King had any further instructions.
Xie Yi was the new name Chen Ling gave to the Scorpion Venom Head. Like Wu Yi, "Xie" was derived from the character for "scorpion," making it easy for Chen Ling to remember and use.
After waiting for less than half a minute, the ground beneath Chen Ling's feet trembled slightly. A completely black scorpion burst out of the earth and respectfully prostrated itself before Chen Ling.
"Xie Yi, how did the task I gave you a couple of days ago turn out?" Chen Ling asked calmly.
"Great King, I have already dispatched my subordinates as you commanded, but the Grey Realm is truly vast... So far, we've only found two of the villages you described."
A few days prior, Chen Ling had assigned Xie Yi the task of finding branch strongholds of the Scarlet Sky Cult. After all, absorbing the Red Star's power of wishes was Chen Ling's fastest method to enhance his strength, and he entrusted it to Xie Yi because the scorpion was the smartest among the five venom heads.
Although it had shown some rebellious tendencies before, Chen Ling didn't care, as long as it obediently served him now.
"That's enough."
Chen Ling slowly walked onto Xie Yi's back. "Gather a group of people; we're going to the nearest one now."
Xie Yi, carrying Chen Ling, crawled directly outwards, emitting a series of hisses as if giving commands.
Immediately afterward, the previously scuttling scorpions seemed to receive a signal, converging like a torrent beside Chen Ling. They surged majestically along the winding, rugged mountain walls, moving towards the exit of the Ghost Mocking Abyss.
Simultaneously, the croaking of a toad echoed from a distance.
Chen Ling looked in that direction.
"I'll probably be back in a day or two. Your task is to guard the Ghost Mocking Abyss well."
The toad nodded vigorously!
Among these major venom heads, the toad was the one Chen Ling trusted most, second only to Wu Yi. Since he was leaving the Ghost Mocking Abyss, he needed someone reliable to guard their home, and the toad was the best candidate. At least with it there, the Ghost Mocking Abyss wouldn't fall into chaos.
As the scorpion torrent surged, Chen Ling's large red opera robe gradually disappeared into the depths of the Ghost Mocking Abyss.
Jade Realm.
Three figures walked along the edge of the battlefield, gradually entering the Grey Realm.
"Are you sure you can leave now?" Sun Bumian asked, looking at Jian Changsheng in surprise. "Although the Jade Realm's defenses are stable, the Mountains of Delusion haven't retreated yet... Wouldn't your departure now be a breach of contract?"
"I've told Tian Huai I'll be back in two or three days at most. Besides, with people from the Spirit Void Realm helping now, the Jade Realm will be fine as long as the Delusion Disaster doesn't make a move," Jian Changsheng shrugged. "If the Delusion Disaster does act, my presence or absence won't change anything."
"That's true."
Sun Bumian's gaze suddenly fell on Jian Changsheng's hands.
Jian Changsheng was carrying a pile of things, both large and small packages. Sun Bumian asked in confusion, "What's all this?"
"Oh, I told Tian Huai and the others that I needed to leave for a few days, and then the people from the Esoteric Sect and the citizens brought me some dry rations and snacks to take on the road," Jian Changsheng grinned. "You know, Fangkuai, Meihua and I were truly terrified of starvation during the six months we wandered the Grey Realm..."
"Tsk, truly General Jian, the renowned one. Now when you go out, citizens line the streets to see you off."
"...Hmph, you're just jealous I have food!"
"Yes, yes, yes."
As Sun Bumian and Jian Changsheng bickered, Jiang Xiaohua, who was nearby, sighed softly.
"It's been many days since I last dreamt of Hong Xin. I hope nothing has happened to him..."
"That guy has a tough life; he probably won't die that easily," Jian Changsheng paused for a moment. "This time when we find him, we'll bring him to the Jade Realm too... Hmph, from now on, I, Jian Changsheng, will protect him!"
Jian Changsheng puffed out his chest, immensely proud, as if he had already subdued Chen Ling and become the cornerstone of his generation.
Sun Bumian looked at Jian Changsheng's confident demeanor, and his expression immediately became subtle:
"...Hmm... I hope so."
A dense swarm of scorpions surged across the desolate Grey Realm land.
Chen Ling sat calmly on Xie Yi's back, his large red opera robe fluttering in the wind. More than half a day had passed since they left the Ghost Mocking Abyss, but there was still no sign of the Scarlet Sky Cult. After all, the Grey Realm was vast, and the cult's branch strongholds would undoubtedly be located in safe areas far from the Calamity Domain.
"Xie Yi, how much longer?" Chen Ling asked.
