Volume One
Is everything fate?Is everything the beginning of a predetermined ending?
The players were momentarily stunned. As they continued to flay the skin, they thought, "Well, this guy ignores us even while we're skinning him. What kind of Zen riddle or enigma is he playing? Is he cutting his flesh to feed a hawk?"
They were actually quite concerned about the infant, as it was a very conspicuous presence on the battlefield, which is why they had come over.
Fate? They looked at the distant battlefield, feeling immense terror even from several light-years away, and thought:
"We know that the Three Heavenly Venerates definitely can't defeat Stone Disc, and will all be killed by Stone Disc, who will then plunder their bloodlines and challenge the supreme ancient being. But for you to say everything is fate, and that Stone Disc is destined to succeed, isn't that a bit too arrogant? Are you openly gloating here, already celebrating Stone Disc's victory? Stone Disc may seem to have won, but the Ultra Ancient God will intervene immediately, gaining the true advantage. You're too naive; Stone Disc is bound to lose!"
They still didn't regard Stone Disc as a true threat. In their eyes, the supreme ancient ultimate being that descended was the real formidable enemy the Ultra Ancient God had to face.
"Oh, fate, everything is predetermined fate," the infant whimpered.
"No, not all of fate is as you say!"
The players immediately grew serious. With one hand pointing to the sky and the other to the ground, they declared, "Not everything destined cannot be changed! Not every appeal goes unanswered! Not every loss is uncompensable! Not every abyss leads to destruction! Not every destruction falls upon the weak... Not everything!!!" Their voices grew louder, and they roared, "Not every spirit! Can be trampled underfoot, rotting in the mud!"
Not every spirit can be trampled underfoot, rotting in the mud...
The infant suddenly stopped crying, looked at them, and a hint of emotion was visible in its clear, childlike eyes.
Meanwhile, Di Qi's eyelids twitched uncontrollably. Were these the great poets who, after stealing his giant octopus corpse, wrote these 'crooked' verses back then?
"But fate is already sealed; it cannot be changed," the infant said, still subdued.
"With sacrifice comes great ambition; dare to command the sun and moon to bring forth a new heaven!" The players stood in solemn formation, as if ancient martyrs, their heroic spirit soaring into the sky.
"But..."
"I laugh at the heavens with my saber held high; my courage remains, whether I stay or leave, like the two Kunluns!" they roared, their eyes flashing with heroic light. A quantum battle body leaped lightly, soaring into the distant energy surge and was instantaneously shattered to death.
The infant stared blankly, watching the valiant figure plunge into the sea of energy to its demise, as if witnessing a magnificent hero from myth roaring defiantly at the heavens.
Di Qi's eyelids twitched violently.
"Do you mean you already know about us...?" He hesitated, his eyes reflecting disbelief.
"Loyal bones lie buried everywhere in green mountains; why must one's corpse be wrapped in horsehide?" Another being leaped into the raging flames, their eyes filled with nonchalance and a sense of carefree adventuring.
He was stunned.
"My thoughts reach the cold stars, yet none perceive; with my own blood, I salute Xuanyuan!" With a roar, another being strode with great strides into the ultimate battlefield of the Tenth-Tier, perishing in a blaze of light. His body was pulverized inch by inch into dust, vanishing between heaven and earth.
"Do you know? Not all of fate is unchangeable!"
A leading figure said solemnly, advising him with burning gaze, their eyes reflecting extreme heroic sublimity, but the skinning knife in their hand never paused its work on the infant for even a second.
"Yes, not all of fate is unchangeable."
The infant felt an exceptionally complex mix of emotions. It hadn't expected such an unpredictable variable at the final moment. In its view, these individuals were outside of fate, clearly aware of its future trajectory.
And they were indeed a variable.
If it were them, could they truly change everything?
"Yes, our civilization shouldn't be destroyed like this." He unconsciously gripped the cradle, looking at the terrifying battle in the sky, feeling a chill run through him. "There's still hope, perhaps there's still hope..."
He looked at the people before him and said, "Stone Disc knew about fate long ago; he had already calculated the future. He has been waiting for this moment for countless years, heading towards death according to the script of the future."
"A script?" Di Qi's expression subtly changed.
"Yes, a script. He calculated everything long ago. After defeating the Three Heavenly Venerates, he would challenge that ancient being and then be killed by it... He neither chose to resist nor could he resist such a destined fall."
Di Qi frowned, "How many bloodlines does that being possess?"
"Three Grand Dao bloodlines," he replied. "One is an elemental bloodline, one is an iron-based bloodline, and the other is his innate racial bloodline."
"So Stone Disc, who killed the Three Heavenly Venerates and possesses four Grand Dao bloodlines, still cannot defeat the descending being?" Di Qi murmured, his understanding growing. If all four were bloodlines from the Abyssal Blue race, it would be akin to having the same talent, making the cultivation seem artificially high and no match for the opponent, which made sense.
"Now, Stone Disc has chosen to accept this fate, because he saw that after his demise, the world would achieve complete unification and a different kind of peace, due to the perfection of that great being's cultivation realm."
"A different kind of peace?" Caroline asked.
"Yes, if he doesn't resist, it will lead to a different kind of peace, and far fewer people will die. The Fallen Civilization, other Abyssal Blue Heavenly Venerates, and I will mostly survive, rather than perish."
"In that war, Stone Disc, despite having four Grand Dao bloodlines, was no match, yet still inflicted severe injuries upon that ultimate Grand Dao being. Stone Disc's Grand Dao deteriorated, severing too many of the opponent's Grand Dao bloodlines and damaging their bloodline foundation... This led to that being, after killing Stone Disc, becoming utterly enraged and obliterating all remaining traces of the Fallen Civilization and the Abyssal Blue Divine Realm."
"At this point, knowing his inevitable defeat, Stone Disc chose not to resist. While appearing to slay the other Three Heavenly Venerates, he was actually merely sealing them into slumber..."
He gazed remotely at the battle group in the distance, at the strongest man fighting three opponents. "He chose to sacrifice one Abyssal Blue Heavenly Venerate and his own life to complete the remaining two bloodlines of that being... Once its bloodlines are perfected, that being will not be enraged, nor will it try to kill them. Instead, the civilization of the entire star river will usher in a true golden age. Moreover, as that being perfects its five bloodlines, it will begin to accept other Tenth-Tier subordinates. The Abyssal Blue race will develop fully, and the remaining two Heavenly Venerates will also become members of that being's command. The era will usher in an unprecedented era of extraordinary peace, which will last for a very, very long time."
Stone Disc had foreseen the future and chose not to resist, preserving his people and descendants. He accepted that tragic future, sacrificing himself to pave the way for a future golden age of peace.
