Yi Mang stepped forward, shattering the void.

With a wave of his hand, his three newly accepted disciples appeared before him.

At this crucial moment, he intended to once again achieve enlightenment and integrate with the cosmic rules. As before, he would have his disciples achieve enlightenment on his behalf.

The three disciples before him were to achieve enlightenment on the three rules that would introduce imperfections to the universe and its myriad beings.

With his powerful charisma, it would not be too difficult for him to gather more disciples who were loyal to him and willing to brave any hardship.

“You, go forth and achieve enlightenment…”

Yi Mang appeared aged and frail, like an old man on the verge of death, yet his eyes gleamed with a cold, undeniable sense of dominance.

“Yes, Master!”

The three disciples stepped forward one after another.

A low rumble of thunder echoed from the cosmos, and the sky grew utterly dim.

Standing afar, Xu Zhi silently witnessed the final moments of Yi Mang’s life, his last burst of glory.

In his twilight years, at this very end, he once again accepted disciples to achieve enlightenment, just as he had in the past. He knew this was the greatest turning point for the entire universe, and that this enlightenment would inevitably lead to a profound, dark transformation, one that everyone would utterly revile and condemn.

People of this era would not understand him; he was destined for utter solitude.

This act severed the immortality of all present beings, effectively cutting off their opportunities for the Great Dao. It also transformed the universe's lifespan, previously limited to a mere thousand years, into a distant future stretching tens of billions of years.

Indeed, for the gods and enlightened beings who had become four-dimensional creatures, a thousand years in the universe was already an infinitely distant future; they experienced real lifespans in higher-dimensional spacetime.

Even if the universe were to be destroyed then, they would have already lived for tens of billions of years within that millennium, with no harm to their interests…

But what about this millennium for the mortals throughout the universe?

Far too short!

The interests of the gods remained unharmed.

Yet, the myriad beings of the universe lost everything; they experienced a real, tangible millennium.

Xu Zhi knew clearly that Yi Mang's dream of paradise continued. He wished to create a truly flourishing era, not conceptualized for gods, but for the common beings, just as he had said:

“I want this universe to exist not for gods to reside in, but for the sake of mortal beings.”

“You are clearly doing this for the sake of the common beings, yet the common beings of this era will not understand you. Instead, they will curse you for it, making you bear the most dreadful infamy in history.” Xu Zhi spoke softly, his expression calm as he stood in the distance.

Yi Mang did not respond.

Everything had truly begun.

—*Whoosh*—

The three great enlightened beings once again achieved enlightenment.

Cosmic radiance shone, threads of light illuminating the entire universe.

The firmament was lit up for an instant, and the entire universe seemed to undergo a massive earthquake, turning upside down, shaking the earth and mountains. Even the chaotic dojo outside the universe trembled.

“What is this?”

Those Primordial Saints who had survived the ancient war of the Three Thousand Primordial Gods and Devils, seated in their dojos, instinctively looked towards the firmament.

“It is Him, He has returned.”

Countless rules and information in the universe were being re-established and circulated.

New branches were added to the main trunk of the Great Dao's laws; unseen patterns were increasing and changing.

“Lifespan.”

A clear thought, naturally born, surfaced in the minds of all beings across the universe. They knew clearly that an existence was achieving enlightenment on a secondary law related to life.

“The world has formation, dwelling, decay, and emptiness; humans have birth, aging, sickness, and death.”

Countless newborn gods and enlightened beings opened their lips and suddenly murmured this phrase. It was a rule, newly enlightened, powerful enough to shake heaven and earth, surfacing in the hearts of every being born in the primordial era.

“What?!”

The next moment, their expressions turned to horror, realizing the immense terror.

“Instead of enlightening the universe towards perfection, someone is actually enlightening it towards imperfection?”

This was also unprecedented; an anomaly had appeared, achieving enlightenment for the universe's incompleteness.

Meanwhile, some ancient powerhouses, originally possessing long lifespans and incredibly young, strong, and handsome bodies, suddenly showed signs of aging and decline. Wrinkles appeared on their skin, cells withered, and their hair turned white.

“We…” Their pupils widened. They felt as if their bodies had been drained. Due to the onset of aging, malevolent yin energy invaded them, strange ailments began to afflict their entire bodies, and various bodily functions deteriorated.

“We…”

“This is Dao assimilation! This is the phenomenon of the Five Decays of Heaven-and-Man!!”

“Clothing soiled, hair withered, armpits sweating, body emitting foul odors, no longer enjoying one's seat... These are the Five Decays of Heaven-and-Man, experienced only by primordial saints who become part of the heavenly order, a form of assimilation by the entire universe. How could we, mere mortals, experience this?”

At this moment, vast swathes of beings across the universe withered and died of old age. More than eighty percent of the population, which had just recovered and thrived, perished.

Mortals and gods alike, none could escape.

For them, it was like a demonic, terrifying curse, a doomsday. A world of unease and black apocalypse had descended, bringing immense disaster upon them.

This was also incredibly unbelievable.

Because in their understanding, they progressed naturally through stages—First, Second... Ninth, Tenth—ultimately reaching ultimate perfection. Only at the Tenth stage would they experience aging and face death.

The Tenth stage of life was a process they all had to undergo.

This concept was akin to human growth: childhood, adulthood. The Tenth stage was like reaching the turning point of thirty years old before aging began. But now, it was as if they were experiencing aging at one, two, ten, or twenty years old, making it difficult even to reach adulthood. How could they not be enraged?

This was simply a violation of the natural order!

“This violates heavenly rules! It goes against the Great Dao! It goes against the common beings!”

“What wickedness! What an atrocity! What kind of malicious person would make us suffer like this!”

Some beings, sensing that these methods were Yi Mang's doing, became utterly furious.

Because this severed their life force, making it almost impossible for them to ascend to the Tenth Ultimate Stage.

From then on, every realm, which had once been a broad path of cultivation easily traversed, became a single-log bridge.

Countless beings would vie to cross this single-log bridge, with untold numbers of their peers' corpses buried beneath their feet in the same realm...

The path to enlightenment, constrained by severe limitations, became incredibly arduous.

“Who would have thought that the Primordial Ancient God would possess such a character?”

“Indeed, we placed our trust in Him wrongly. His merits could suppress all ages; he founded cultivation methods, taught beings how to cultivate, opened up heaven and earth, and struck the universe's first blow. Such a peerless sage, unprecedented in antiquity and unlikely to ever appear again, whose achievements could endure eternally... In those dark times, we believed his mind was clouded due to his nearing lifespan. Yet, even so, later generations of saints covered for him, still believing in him and remembering his grace of enlightenment. But we never imagined...”

“He has fallen and become so evil!”

“He harms others and himself, unable to bear the good fortune of other beings!”

“Affected by the tribulations of the Great Dao, personally enduring the harm of the Five Decays of Heaven-and-Man, tormented by pain day and night, his mind has grown increasingly malicious! This revered, gravely ill being has actually made the common beings suffer alongside him, forcing them to endure his current pain!”

“This era has truly fallen into an boundless sea of suffering!”

A post-Heavenly being wailed loudly in sorrow, growing increasingly distressed. He ran across a planet, pointing at the sky, and roared, “This paradise of eternal life, from this moment, no longer exists! Beings born into this world are doomed to sink into boundless suffering!”

He held his sick child, whose body was covered in spots, face pale, and body cold, and he couldn't help but weep bitterly.

“The Great Dao's illness, this is the illness of the Saints of the Great Dao... How can it appear on a child only a little over ten years old? How could you bear it! How could you... bear it!!!”

“This is just a child, yet he must endure the suffering meant only for Saints?”

Pointing at the sky, he roared, tears streaming down his face, his heart torn. He cursed loudly, “Is this what you desired? To open up heaven and earth, to create us, only to make us suffer from birth, to immerse us in the Five Decays of Heaven-and-Man from the moment we are born, experiencing birth, aging, sickness, and death like those Great Dao Saints!”

All beings were cursing, filled with grief and rage, wailing loudly.

Xu Zhi witnessed this scene and remained silent, just quietly watching. This was the scene Yi Mang would find hardest to bear, yet he had chosen to shoulder it.

Yi Mang, however, remained silent, quietly watching his three disciples achieve enlightenment. When the Great Dao's laws had settled and his three disciples had finished their enlightenment one after another, they respectfully stepped forward.

“Thank you, Master.”

Their young, hopeful, and inexperienced faces were full of excitement.

They did not care what the outside world said.

They could ignore the gossip and rumors.

They only knew that Yi Mang had been gracious to them, accepting them as disciples, allowing them to become Great Dao Saints, and bestowing upon them such an immense opportunity. That was enough.

“They do not know Master's profound intentions and sorrow...”

“Master has borne infamy for the sake of the common beings, but those common beings do not understand...”

The three disciples had just bowed respectfully.

Suddenly, a cold glint flashed.

To their disbelief, the three disciples were savagely pierced through their chests. Unimaginable Great Dao laws permeated every single one of their cells.

In an instant, they perished, their Dao extinguished.

“Ma... Master...?” In their dying moments, they cast incredibly bewildered glances at Yi Mang.

That pure, clear, worshipful gaze would have made anyone remorseful and heartbroken, but Yi Mang showed no such emotion. He simply gazed calmly at the three disciples, who died with their eyes still wide open in disbelief. His gaze was utterly serene, as serene as dead ashes.

After a moment of silence,

“Slaughtering three more disciples—this truly makes me seem like an unforgivable villain of all ages!!”

He burst into hearty laughter, his deep voice echoing continuously throughout the starry sky, finally concluding his words.
